Bakflip MX4 install, am I doing it wrong?

I cannot get the rail flushed properly with the clamps. It almost looks as if the foam strip is not cut to the right size and just allowing my rail to sag. Did I get a defective one, wrong model, or I’m just not doing it right?

When holding it up by hand you can see the gap where the foam contacts the truck:

You need the clamps to “push” it against the bedside. Two sets of hands make it easier

Thanks for the pictures! Our rails look different. Yours doesn’t have a foam to press against the truck bed. I wonder if I should remove that.

Looks like a slightly updated design but the metal rail shape looks generally the same. It was a while ago but if I recall. The foam was not installed on my rails and in the packaging. I really don’t think it’s necessary to be honest. I would say remove it and try again. Worst case a little spray glue and it’s right back on if needed. I does take a bit to get the rails aligned once the clamps are on. I got both rails on with the clamps not loose but not too tight, the mounted the cover to aid in alignment as the cover on will square the rails. Then buttoned up

I figured it must be updated design too. But man, the clamps just pulls it down some more. The rails and clamps look different from the 2 videos I’ve found and your picture.

I do recall it was a bit of a PITA getting the rails to cooperate too. Hope to see it installed soon!

Maybe double check the model# on the box shipped as a cross reference for the proper kit
