So been having some issues with the Emporia charger. I got it because it was widely suggested. It has been flawless up until this past week. Came home from work and plugged in. It charged for roughly an hour and then got a Charger Station Error (or something like that). I fudged with it a bit and it would charge for a few more minutes each time but then eventually error out.

I hooked the mobile charger up and it finished through the night. I had to get it charged because I do about 150 miles round trip to work and back and had to get it charged before 4AM, when I left.

I contacted Emporia support and they have been great. Connecting remotely, checking some things out, had me try a few things. Well I never got them the flashing light sequence which I didn't know about. They kind of asked but I just assumed it blinked once every second or so.

Just now, I went back out to try it again and get that code. The code is 3 long flashes and 1 short one. It errors out right away, doesn't even start charging. The error is 'The car is requesting ventilation during charging, which is not supported by the Emporia EV Charger. Contact Support'. So I'm going to send this off to them here in a few. But wanted to ask here, if this is something ford lightings legitly request this (or even can)? What exactly is it? My charger is in my shop and the lighting is always parked outside. So very confused.

I have the mobile charger plugged back in and has been working flawlessly. So my gut tells me it is the Emporia charger. But I guess knowing it is a ventilation error... something the charger doesn't support... is this legit and does the FORD mobile charger actually support this?

Any insight would be appreciated it.

Well, looks like Ford Lightings do not require/request it based on reading. So sounds like the the truck is sending the message which I don't think is the case... or the charger is making it up? Maybe something up with the communications/cord/plug? I know the ford mobile charger works but I'm not a fan of using that as a perm solution. That stays in the truck with me.

Will see what Emporia says. I can't find a lot online with folks talking about this. Really just one post and Emporia came back to say the charger was working fine, nothing they can do even though that vehicle (forget model) didn't require ventilation ether. Hopefully they can fix it or replace the unit if it is defective. If neither, can't suggest anyone getting one and will have to go buy a different brand. Just need to be able to track my power consumed through the charger for accurate mile efficiency tracking.

Will keep you all updated though just to help someone else out that may hit this issue.

Disappointing. My Emporia has been a great source of reliable power and good data for my log.
I'm hoping the support can do something come Monday. Sounds like Ford doesn't even send any ventilation requests... So has to be the unit...? We will see.

I had something like this happen last spring with my Emporia. I got a charger error and contacted support. After checking a few things, they sent me a replacement charger. I sent the old one back with a prepaid shipping label. Now that is service!

My emporia charger would cause the truck to give a charging error. I noticed the cable was loose at the handle (it would twist a bit). I shut off the charger at the breaker and took the handle apart. Found a loose small wire connection on the locking clip sensor. I crimped it properly and heat shrink it. Tightened the cable down so it didn’t twist any more in the handle. No problems since.
I don’t recommend messing with the charger or handle or anything like that unless you really know what you’re doing.

As you’ve said, Emporia are fantastic when it comes to support and would probably send you a whole new charging cord with handle if they determine that is the problem.

This morning I have a new to me screen on my Emporia android app. After this "new" screen the app worked as usual.

"EV is not accepting charge
Offering Charge
Check your vehicle for a scheduled charge time"

Perhaps there is an OTA update involved with your issue? Good Luck tomorrow.

If you haven't already, turn the EVSE breaker off and back on. It could be a glitch.

Mine has been running flawlessly for 9 months. My only complaint is that in freezing conditions, the release latch on the gun can get stiff and I occasionally have to manually push it down to lock into the truck. It seems water gets in the hinge and freezes.
