With the Feds now removing all EV chargers from their buildings, there will be 10,000? low mileage Lightnings & other EV's coming into the used market?

In a March 2024 press release, the GSA announced that more than 58,000 zero-emission vehicles had been ordered and that more than 25,000 new charging ports had begun installation. Actually, how many ZEVs were received and chargers installed between then and now is unclear.

I have never viewed a vehicle as an investment. It is a utility for dealing with our current societal structures. As such, there is nothing, literally nothing, that I would rather be driving. It is an absolute pleasure to drive, both short and long distances. I, for one, am happy and grateful that Ford made it and hope they continue to do so. For those who wish to ā€œtime the marketā€, evidence suggests you will always be disappointed.

Who knows what Musk believes, he appears drunk with power. It just is amazing, we paid to have chargers installed and EV's purchased and it was good and be cheaper to operate.

You would think Elon would be blowing in Dad's ear about supporting EV's! He owns the biggest EV manufacturer in the world (for now) and it's in his best interest to persuade the government to continue the build out! We are well on our way-

What is going on??

when did charging personal vehicles at a business / or even worse - a govt building funded by tax payers become the norm? Not mad itā€™s just interesting. It would be like a fuel truck coming thru the parking lot and filling up govt employees ICE vehicles.

Why not just turn the spigots on and allow employees to use for a fee? Seems like cutting the nose off to spite the face.

Very good point... they SHOULD pay! Nice though to have a "Fueling Station" at work-
Just want to see further progress and not go backwards.

WE are talking chargers for EV's owned by the Government, not the public. We the public, paid for EV's to be used by the Forest Service etc., and the chargers are now being disconnected. Those EV's that the public own will have be be charged by Tesla and others, or sit idle.

Remember the good old days when we were going to get electric post office trucks ....

We are talking about thousands of EV's owned by the Feds, and this administration is turning off the power to the chargers.

Because that would be unethical and he's never been in this for his own benefit. Nor does he or Tesla need the government's help.

It was never for personal vehicles, that would be explicitly illegal.

The main point was so that the government could begin using EVs for certain purposes in the government fleet, with an eventually phase out of gas vehicles by 2035.

Tell me you don't know what you're talking about without telling me you don't know what you're talking about. People with personally owned vehicle are not getting free charging using government funded electricity. That is not and was never a thing.

GSA has contracts with ChargePoint and others for the chargers installed at government facilities. Chargers installed on government property using government electricity have all that worked out in their contracts. For personal vehicle use, you pay for it just like you would at any other public ChargePoint station. ChargePoint then reimburses the government for the kWh used on personal vehicles. For government owned vehicles, they charge without the ChargePoint fee like a personal vehicle would.

What the government did pay for at taxpayer expense is the Charging Station itself and the installation of it at a minimum of $12,000 each, usually more considering the cost of wire and installation engineering.

Iā€™ll re read the article but it said govt vehicles (which I agree need charging ) but also made reference to govt employee vehicles that charge while at work? If itā€™s a vehicle that is used for site work such as tax assessment / ect I agree but it seemed more like you or me just

My guess is this will go very similar when musk bought twitter. They will cut too much but will correct what they need pretty quickly.

Then why does the article mention it?
You donā€™t think govt employees are coming into work and using free charging ? You could be right and if thatā€™s the case I fully agree with you but the article seems to say otherwise.

Why are you reading words that are not there?? Nowhere in those articles or the screenshot does it say personal vehicles are charging for free at the government's cost.

Yes some charger allowed personal vehicles to be charged at the owner's personal expense.
