One unique aspect of the Lightning, that I assume many people have found, is that when you pull up to a DC fast charge station you're an instant celebrity! I did my first DC fast charge yesterday (had the truck one week now) and both people at the station got out of their car to come talk to me about the truck. 😄 I'm not one that shies away from "holding court" so it was kind of fun. I thought it would be cool to have a thread where we share our experiences at charge stations (or wherever) when people want to know about the Lightning.

So, share away!

(I didn't know if this should be a "general topic" or what, mods move as necessary)

I've done the same after seeing some Rivians at an EA Station several months ago... the two owners were proudly standing together discussing their vehicles when I walked up with my FORD LIGHTNING hat sitting prominently in view. I don't think they were 'impressed', but then again, they were both new Rivian owners, so I gave them a break : )

First, people will QUESTION why a 'truck' is taking up a space at the Charging Station.
Then, they will start to look more closely and find that you are CONNECTED to the Charge Station.
Suddenly, you will hear screeching tires, and an 'engine' vehicle backing... and the passenger's jaw open widely.
Lastly, you will be accosted by onlookers wanting to 'touch' your baby, and 'see' inside and 'know' all the details. Don't pop the frunk, or you'll just be asking for trouble!

: )

now, add more to that when you have your camper attached.

Haha! I saw a Rivian for the first time yesterday. He was pulling into Costco, I was pulling out. We saw eachother from about 50 yards across the parking lot and both slowed down to check the other out. We had an EV truck owner moment. 😄

Rivian owners will be like Tesla owners for a long while - they'll catch view of us, turn their heads quickly as though they've not seen us, and stub their noses...

it doesn't matter, though, we're BIGGER than them! : )

I spent time talking with other EV drivers at DCFC along the PA turnpike. Always interesting discussions about best and worst places to stop.
On the other hand, I miss seeing the usual acquaintances getting coffee at the gas station In the morning. Well, not really.

At the EA station in Manchester, NH there was one couple (late 30s?) in an Kia EV6. The wife immediately commented that she loved my Lightning and it was the first one she had seen. Then there was an older guy (70s) in a new Bolt EUV. We chatted on the Bolt, since I had owned one, and he talked about how he had been looking around for a Lightning but every place he could find with one was way over sticker. He said he found one that was $11k over...which is actually a decent deal considering the increase in MSRP and loss of tax credit.

As I posted in my trip review, the DCFC stations are like little car shows - especially since they are where all the lost children (aka the diversity of non-Teslas) gather. After years of being in loud (sometimes very loud) muscle cars or sports cars and seeing people roll their windows down to hear them drive by, my wife commented that people do that now to hear the silence of the Lightning. During our trip I was able to get a detailed look at a Rivian and in-turn gave the Rivian owner a detailed look at the Lightning. In the non-EV parking situations, opening the frunk to put groceries, etc. is what really gets people to look at you funny. Although many people assume it is another one of the million regular F-150s, the ones that do know really want to see it and talk about it. In that way it is like driving any other interesting/exotic car.

I’m looking forward to this! Even in the ID.4 I’d say I’m stopped about the third of the time when I plug in at the grocery store. While I like talking EVs with drivers of other models, it’s the ICE drivers who stop by that I appreciate most.

Conversation usually starts about how there’s an “agenda” (which they’ve been taught is a bad word and not just a list of items) to get people to switch. “Yes, sir,” I’ll say, “there is an agenda to get people into EVs, but it’s not some nefarious plan to swindle us—just a desire to help us transition to a new technology that can save us money, help us be more self-reliant, and will let us breathe a little easier.”

So far my two DCFC visits were after midnight events, looking forward to afternoon visits in the future, especially when I am pulling the race trailer, I might encounter some negative energy if I don't park correctly.

I visited my first DCFC today and it was the EA one in Manchester, NH the OP mentioned earlier. It was quite busy, with either all stalls occupied, or sometimes one avaiable. Luckly no one had to wait during the time I was there.
I did get to chat with many of the other drivers and they were all curious about my Lightening. I did stand out a bit since I was towing my camper, but I'll start a new thread to talk about that part.

There was a Rivian pulling out of the EA Station in Stratford, CT this morning. We both instinctively stopped and rolled down our window to talk as we passed eachother. 😆. Unfortunately someone pulled up behind me and we only got to chat for a few seconds. It was a younger couple, maybe mid-thirties? It was the first Lightning they’d seen, they were very excited! I’m loving the EV community camaraderie!

I did find it a little funny this past week when I was at an EA charger and a Porsche Taycan Turbo S pulled up. The owner was a little giddy looking at it (even tried to get his wife to get out of the car to look at it... she wasn't having any of it). I don't think I'll ever have a person with an almost $200k car (maybe it was over with his options) fawn over my vehicle!

Porsche people are pretty car savvy. Had similar situation with a Panamera Turbo S. Guy says “I want one of those” while I was at an EA charger.

The majority owner of my company has a Taycan Turbo S. I’m expecting to hear from him at some point. He’s worth a hundred mil, at least. I’m hoping he wants to throw like $250k at me for it. 😆
