If the extra 10% going to 90% means I get to the next charger at 30% instead of 20% then it’s a waste of time. If it means I get there at 15% instead of 5% it’s worth it.

That is EXACTLY what I mean. I am a former pilot and I like margins (and tend to push them). When on a road trip, I try not to roll into a charging station with less than 8% to 10% because the GOM gets a bit twitchy at very low SOC; I am not always successful . To be clear, with over 150K miles of plug-in vehicle experience, I pay almost no attention to the range estimate; I do my own in real time off the SOC, based on conditions.
