Do the cameras record?

Someone hit my new Lightning Flash and took off. I only have 500 miles on it. Do the cameras record while parked over night. I’m hoping the backup and or cargo camera captured something. Thanks

Biggest drawback of the tech in the truck, IMO. There is no logical reason they couldn't record. My guess is Ford doesn't know how to properly handle the 12v for this and are afraid of people complaining of phantom drain (see Rivian/Tesla forums). Why the cameras don't record while driving Is another annoyance, that wouldn't have the 12v concern. The CPU and bus are probably undersized and can't handle that volume of data. Huge oversight by Ford.

I agree, its a huge oversight... This is one feature I would actually pay for, even if it was only when the vehicle is on (multi camera dash cam). Hopefully they sort it out in the next gen. In this day and age, there is no reason they can't use the high voltage battery to do this with the draw being negligible. It just needs to be designed that way from the ground up but it's definitely possible. The dash cam (while truck on) idea should easily be able to be done on the current gen trucks. Again, I would pay ford to upgrade my software to have a built in dash cam or pay a subscription if the video data was uploaded to a cloud. Instead of spending time making a Karaoke app, something like a dash cam app is what would make me get their data package subscription.

Sorry this happened to you Jnoahr. Maybe a neighbor has a cam set up outside their home that could help? As an aside, are there other manufacturers that offer motion detecting cameras as stock or as an option?

Tesla (Sentry) and Rivian (Gear Guard) offer it. Maybe Lucid too.

Probably less of an oversight, and more of "we never wrote software before" so we can't do it.

Tesla is 10 years ahead of other makers, because they started 10 years before everyone else. In 3-4 years it might be something Ford will be able to offer.

I installed this in my truck for this exact reason. Has built in cellular and GPS and notifies you on your phone if someone hits your car. Essentially does what Tesla and Rivian does while we wait to see if Ford can add this feature.

Really wish Ford would’ve done a Sentry mode with all the cameras around the truck. Since they didn’t, I’m looking to install something myself. Has anyone done a 360 always on camera system yet? I have a front and back dash cam but I’d like sides / 360 if possible too.

I ordered the FitCamX front and rear cameras which work great. Doesn't help you now but I would recommend them to anyone.
