Solid state battery is just a fancy new way of saying it doesn't use a hydrocarbon based liquid electrolyte that most current lithium ion batteries use. Just about every new battery technology has the goal of greater energy density since that's the greatest drawback of EVs. The other goal is to increase discharge cycles as well as the depth of discharge.

The internal combustion engine has the advantage of only needing to carry 1/15th of the needed products of combustion. For every pound of gasoline burned, you're also using roughly 14 pounds of air. That's why hydrogen fuel cells are a tempting solution to the energy storage dilemma.

Imagine that every time you used a tank of gas, your gas tank got smaller, and then every time you ran your gas tank down to Empty, you irreparably damaged it. So after 100,000 miles what started as a 20 gallon tank is now a 2 gallon tank but to fill it up, you still have to buy 20 gallons of fuel and to replace that fuel tank costs $7,000-$14,000. That is just a simplistic way to describe the limitations of current battery technology and why it has been so important that new technology is developed.
So as of now EV's only run on Lithium ion batteries? I do know they degrade over time. I have a cabinet full of useless cordless tools to prove it, lol.
Would it be safe to say that a solid state battery is a dry cell battery?

Mostly, pretty much every popular model EV or HEV uses lithium ion just like your phones. There are exceptions, like the ones using hydrogen fuel cells but those really aren't being sold to anyone other than leases and fleets with very limited private ownership because of almost nonexistent infrastructure compared to gas stations and electrical utilities.

No, a dry cell specifically describes the disposable type batteries that have been around for a hundred years and as anyone can attest who has left a AA cell in a flashlight too long, aren't that dry but have a paste electrolyte.

The nomenclature around batteries and cells can be confusing because there are so many different ways and types that are sometimes really different and sometimes subtly different. Almost anything can be a battery, the trick is making it practical. Since there's the very compelling argument that Li-ion powered EVs aren't an environmentally sound alternative to internal combustion vehicles when you start looking up the supply chain and then take into account how the electricity is being made. Just because something can be done and a company can make a profit selling it, doesn't make it a better solution.

I'm not an electric guy. What does it currently have and why is a solid state battery better?
I'm going to seriously consider purchasing one of these in about 4 years when my truck reaches the 150,000 mile mark.
Currently has Lithium.

Solid state last longer, cost less, charge faster, recyclable, much smaller so weigh a lot less, life span of the battery pack is much longer than lithium now with new advancements in nano tech and because they are much lighter you can have larger batteries packs for much longer range.

Toyota and several companies have been working towards this to include Ford. Toyota is suppose to have a working model late this year or early next year.

Don't like it one bit. The logo needs to incorporate the fact that it is an electric lightning

These days, many people don’t remember, don’t care, or never heard of the original “F150 Lightning“ but everyone knows that Lightning is electricity ⚡ in it’s purest form and when the advertising starts, it’ll become very clear why Ford chose the name.
