Not a fan of the trailer plug design on Lightning with a flip down vs up as on my older Fx50s.

Pulled a trailer 300 miles in rain, since disconnecting getting screen errors for brake controller and turn single is doing the “rapid” flash I historically attribute to a burnt bulb.

Looked in the 7 pin and it’s full of water and fine sand (this was highway towing). I’m hoping once it dries out the errors will stop…

however design wise the flip up protects the connector and a slight downward angle drains. This design does neither.

Blow the connectors out with compressed air and put some dielectric grease on both connections.

Yep, neither handy at the moment. Just went to try it after sitting for 3 days - opened 7 pin still full of water (will try and wedge flap open so it dries…) - turn signal still doing funky chicken…

I've towed for over 20,000 miles and thru many rain storms, and even while parked with the camper and keeping it plugged in to the truck... never any issue...

but, electrical grease wouldn't hurt... it's made just for that reason.

I never had a problem with mine, but...just replace it?

If you have one that's the other way, or pick up one up that's the other way around. It takes maybe 30 seconds to pop out and plug in. Here's mine from when I did the trailer cam upgrade, opens up instead of down:

Dried out, blown out - truck still giving Trailer Brake Controller Error - no trailer attached. No response from brake controller - normally it brings up a no trailer attached warning if I cycle it.

Usually use diesel for towing, regretting the let’s use the Lightning lol. Next stop checking fuses.

Solved the error, kudos to ice f150 forum - pull fuse 91 (not blown just remove and replace) resets module.
