Makes sense, I liked the back up power issue but I honestly never used it. I thought I would more. We mainly have Airbnb’s so the utilities are already in our name, only a couple long term rentals but they have friends in them so no worries on the utilities. What year was your tesla? Mine was a 2022 Model Y, also had the 19s on it which helped with the ride quality and road noise.

Trucks are definitely useful, luckily I have several I can borrow at a moments notice. I don’t want two vehicles unless one is a supercar for nice days, so I’ll wait until the cybertruck (or ram rev possibly but don’t trust their EVs yet) comes out.
I have 2022 Model 3, 2019 BMW i8 roadster and the 2022 x5 45e. If I wanted to drive bumpy I would just drive the i8. I think the model 3 has to go. Lol

I guess I do alot of the fixing on the rental properties and all of them has pool so it better for me to drive a truck with all my tools. Hard to fit dewalt toughsystem in the tesla.

Lightning definitely makes sense and the model 3 going. The i8 is a bumpy ride? I couldn’t imagine having pools with rentals! Insurance through the roof? You must be down south I’m assuming?

I’ve been considering a gen 1 R8 (dual clutch though) or possibly some Ferrari with a backseat for my daughter like a FF or California but maintenance costs scare me with those and make me want to just hold out for a C8 E-ray or Z06 whenever they will be sold for msrp so I have a few years before that’ll happen at least.

Yeah I am. Yeah wife wanted lambo or ferrari. But the i8 i think is the best. Go all EV and cheap on mainteance. It not that bumpy but it is fun to drive in sports mode. If you want back seat for rhe baby the i8 coupe has it. We wnted that but the converitble was more fun. I am looking a the Mclaren MP4-12c.

My wife doesn’t care about cars, she wants more properties which is the smart thing but you have to live a little too. I definitely want an EV as a daily, but if I’m getting a weekend car I want something that has a nice exhaust note, but that typically means high maintenance costs haha, otherwise I’d just get a model X plaid, hoping the trimotor cybertruck i have reserved has similar performance. I’d love a McLaren but hear too many horror stories with reliability but have heard good things about the mp4-12c plus you get supercar doors like the i8! Huracan’s are bulletproof too and can’t go wrong there.

Lol my wife wants more porperties too. Should have at least 1 fun car to drive before we get too old to enjoy it.

I have been using my tesla to tow my trailer when I goto the rental properties and it is a pain. Rather not tow that thing around since it is hard to park if i have to buy something.

I agree! Yeah trailers are a pain, I have one property that is off a major road and it was much easier with a truck vs towing a trailer there but hopefully I’m done with the renovations/workload there.

Good luck with your lightning, at the price you got it for it’s a no brainer, I was in a completely different boat with mine.

It could be surprisingly low. At that time, Chevy/RAM/CT are all in market, 2nd gen Lightning would be out as well. The MSRP would be lower (both starting price and Lariat/Platinum price), and features like better aerodynamics, improved MPG, bigger capacity, 800V 350kW fast charging, heat pump would be added.

Pros for Resale
- MY22 prices were much lower, anyone who bought at original MSRP has to be feeling good.
- The truck has reviewed very well. Even if stuff comes out that's better, it doesn't change the fact this is a very nice truck and people will want it.
- Other than long range towing, the Lightning has handled every truck duty I've thrown at it with ease. Anyone looking for a traditional truck experience can find it with a Lightning.

Cons for Resale
- Range, especially on the SR, will scare away a ton of buyers. Especially people who don't have EVs now, this is the crowd that is not buying because they need absurd range numbers to be happy. They won't even consider the truck.
- Moving from higher end cars to a Ford has shown me how little is standard on their lower trims. You can buy a $46k Tesla M3 (SR price + autopilot) and have nearly every feature available in vehicles today. The XLT SR, which is the cheapest Lightning available unless you hit a Pro lottery, has around the same amount of comfort features as my 2001 Impala I drove in college and it starts at $64k.

Unknown for Resale
- What will be the MSRP and production numbers of the next wave of EV trucks? This really is the key factor for our truck values and none of us really have a clue. Do Chevy and Tesla combine to sell 100k trucks through 2025 at aversge MSRP of $80k? Then Lightning resale will be fine. Or do they make 500k trucks with average MSRP of $50k? Then Lightning will lose tons of value.

I guess I am in it for the long run. With all the rebate and tax write off you cant get something like this for $20k. Adding adaptive cruise next week for $800

Definitely not! I am just stating the facts and two years unique experience could be priceless.

But if you are price sensitive and could wait, probably sell it now is a better choice. That would depend on other factors as well.

To me, the only thing missing is 250-350kW charging. In California centra valley, heated seat is good enough during winter. But current charging situation makes road trips vey unpleasant. Other, Lightning is great to keep for many years.

They are saying 150kw and 250kw doesnt make much a differece.

That will depend on the charging curve and the system (400v vs. 800-900v). For 10- 80% charging it could be 20min vs 30 min difference. If you charge 15-60%, charge time could be reduced by 50%.

Another thing hurts the Lightning charging is the CCS which is unreliable and protocal could be miserable. With the reliable Tesla charging system and guaranteed 150-250kW speed, road trip would be fun with Lightning.

I recently had a road trip, and I stopped by Shasta city Tesla Super charging station. It is 150kW but its $0.33 price is lower than other area. It turns out 150kW is not noticeably slower than 250kW. The reason is Tesla is 400V, peak 250kW only last a few minutes. I charged from 20% to 85%, it is more like 28min vs. 32min.
