I'm hoping I didn't overpay but I just got a Lightning. It was an abandoned customer order and dealer sent emails to his reservation holders last night. It was $10K over sticker (Loaded Lariat ER). When you factor in the the MY23 $7500 increase + included mobile charger and the guaranteed $7500 tax rebate vs what I would be looking at for 23, I think I came out ahead. Plus it has the onboard scale and smart hitch (not deleted) and AM radio (actually something I still use)! Oh, and its in my driveway! My luck, I'll get an order invite tomorrow :p.
With everything going on with the 23’s, I honestly no longer see an issue with paying over as long as it’s not over the sticker price of a 23. Either way, it’s your money and you use it as you see fit! Congrats on your purchase!

Remember, many panic sell like they do in the stock market (=rookie mistake). Many think they'll flip for $40k in a day. When a week or two go by and they realize they have to pay a car payment, they start freaking out. So they drastically cut the price. Many don't realize the fee's they'll have to pay for ebay and paypal or whatnot too. So not only are they making thin profits, many idiots get screwed with online seller fees that may put them in red. Plus, many don't think about location. If you're in a small town far from a big city, nobody is gonna drive cross country to pay you a $40k markup. If you're flipping and expect big profit fast, you better live near a big city where the money is. Just my two cents.

fwiw, the auto industry has reported "buyers have stopped buying" … carvana, carmax, all the online dealers have reported their Sep numbers. trade-in valuations are down, interest rates are up.

Let’s see how long it’ll take “Lariats and Platinums only, please” Ford motor co. to get the memo. Could large companies be actually 10% more profitable if they weren’t just so darn slow to react to what’s going on in the real world? We might never find out.

If this is still a limited commodity, and there is a sold out line with no ability to order for a few years, and prices for retail are going up I just don't understand how the market allows you to buy one of these below msrp. We live in interesting times.

For the record, dealer near me still asking 30k over sticker. They have 3 on the lot. Probably why they have 3 lol
3 on the lot? And my dealer can't even get a demo model for me to test drive. :(

Sold my Lariat ER last week for $96K.
In NY state if I sold at this amount, after paying taxes and delivery on the initial purchase and then taxes on the profit, I'd make $4k. That's if it was a private sale, with no auction or PayPal fees.

So basically Uncle Sam makes out, lots of taxes collected here. The buyer gets absolutely screwed, paying $16k over MSRP. The seller walks away with a small win, but think of the risk for future sales if prices get pushed down further as time passes.

Good luck to all future flippers... in the most sarcastic tone ever written.

With the old tax credit I made roughly $13K - and yes after paying all taxes and fees.

I Just like my Rivian better.

Buyer got a truck 2 years sooner and paid a $6K premium (after the Ford $10K price increase my truck is now $90K) and would not have been eligible for the tax credit with the new rules.

Selling is just plain stupid. There is no better car/truck available in the market. People talk about downsides blah blah, but the reality is that if you can afford the purchase, there is nothing else better. I am sure Munros Videos will confirm this. Towing 10’000pounds of water is over rated!!!
Depends on your use case and what trim it is, IMO.

If it's a $40k Pro, then yeah, it's basically unbeatable by any EV or gas vehicle on value. Maybe someone could argue a Bolt is fine for some use cases and cheaper, but I think the Pro wins on overall value.

An $80k Lariat, though? It's great, but I don't think it's clearly better than a Rivian that some people have locked in in for less money (see poster above who sold his Lariat to keep a Rivian). Both are great and it's probably personal preference between them. There are also several other EVs that are cheaper and more efficient and faster road-trippers IF you don't need a truck (Mach E GT, Ioniq5, Model 3, Y, etc.). Heck, you could get a Porsche Taycan for similar money if it's just for a family vehicle or commuter.

Lightning is a GREAT vehicle, one of the best, for sure, but at $80k-$90k, there are some other great vehicles out there. I don't think it's crazy to sell if you decide you'd rather have a Mach E GT, Rivian, Model Y, Taycan, if you can get one (that's the tough part).

If you just sold the truck, anyone who would have bought it would have been eligible for the EV tax rebate. So they paid a $13.5K premium. (Nothing has changed except the requirement for NA assembly. Other changes happen in January.)

Taycan(e-tron GTs) are cool, but there are quite a lot of problems that people are reporting. Plus, the base Taycan is slower than the Lightning and the 4S is just slightly faster...embarrassing. The Germans are really sandbagging their EV performance to make them slot into their gas car lineups price wise.

The Tesla Y with an optional paint and white interior is around $72K now!

This ^^^

So many people have no clue how to sell anything!

We put our 2021 Mach-E up for sale in May after getting our 2022 Mach-E (ordered May 2021). Priced with all the services, listed on various sites. A dealer 2 states away offered me more than everyone. About 6 weeks after I listed it, and several weeks after his initial offer, I sold it to him for $2k more than his initial offer. 3 months later he has it for sale for $1,000 less than he paid me. I got several "this offer is only good for a week" from dealers off one site. I sent back "that's nice, it's a lousy offer".

I've been selling my father in-law's stuff for 8 years out of my basement via Craigslist. No single item, except for a car or camper, is worth much. Eliminating vehicles and scrap yard ($4k+), I've got close to $30k. When I have an item listed for $300, and I get "would you take $100", I pass. My usual response is "I researched prices and I believe my listing is fairly priced. Do you agree?" Most responses are yes, and most buy at that price. If it doesn't sell at $300, 2 months later it's $275, then ... I have lots of patience, and a big basement.

If the buyer could get a new Lightning before the January changes, they presumably wouldn't be buying this one.

The current tax credit is only available to the buyer of a new vehicle. A 2nd buyer/owner is not eligible.

Anyone who didn't already have a reservation or pre-order placed for the F-150 Lightning:

- is going to have to wait about 2 years to get one
- is going to pay at least $90K MSRP for a Lariat ER from Ford
- is not going to be eligible for the new tax credit

This person, who wants a truck now, can pay a 'flipper' or seller to get a truck now and the price to do that can be as little as maybe a $6K premium , or less.

The advantages of buying now:
- They don't have to wait two years
- Depending on their situation they may save a large percentage of that premium not paying for gas, repairs, etc.

The potential buyer can decide if the $6K is worth it.
