I think competition is healthy. I remember when they said it was the end of American car makers when the cheap Japanese cars hit the US market. A lot of Americans still want "Made in America" so Detroit survived. The Japanese companies have built factories here that use American labor so they can advertise "Made in America".

Auto companies are now building factories in Mexico because of tariffs. Since America slapped tariffs on foreign autos (even from Europe), they in turn slapped tariffs on American made autos. The autos made in Mexico aren't currently charged these tariffs, so the MME's made in Mexico can be sold around the world tariff free.

Tariff proponents tell us, tariffs save American jobs, I disagree, healthy competition and innovation saves jobs. Protecting companies by placing tariffs on their competition only fuels complacency and rewards these companies for doing things the same old way instead of innovating.
