Glad to know I am not the only one seeing an issue. Mine is relatively minor, but my cab button works every time (even though I rarely use it), my key fob works every time, and the button in the frunk rarely works (maybe 30% of the time). Obviously it is only used for closing it, but that is the most convenient way to close it and it doesn't work more times than not. It has an icon next to it that looks like an owners manual icon, leading me to believe that this was meant to be configurable, however I can't find anything that would allow me to configure it. There is also no rhyme or reason as to when it will work or won't (I have tried it with doors locked, unlocked, etc.), so it leads me to believe it is another issue.
My frunk would not open yesterday when I hit the keyfob button initially- then it did open after the vehicle was unlocked. Failed to close twice using the button on the Frunk- it made it almost closed- then beeped and went up again!
The second time I manually forced it down as it tried to open and it then stayed closed. I'm not sure why Ford is having so many problems with this frunk- I have a hatchback car and it always works- up or down as required. I tend to not use the frunk much as I don't have full confidence in it. I would think that Ford would want this fixed so it is reliable- this is my sixth Ford truck and I've never had anything like this before. I almost wish they had just left it as a manual release like the hood on my 2016 F150- easy to lift with the torsion springs and never an issue to open or close!

So my frunk opens about 50 % of the time. It will do the initial release and then bounce a bit but not open. I have to push it closed and then repeat the opening and it will usually go after that. Also has anybody else noticed the rough looking plastic on the under side of the frunk closest to the grill area? It looks like its been left in a salt water bath for a month! My detailer tried to clean it up with no success.
Does it look like white stains and white patches all over the place? I have that too and it looks like it can be cleaned but nothing I tried will clean it.

Can you post a picture? That's really weird

Some thoughts based on my experience:

1. & 2. My Frunk will behave like this if I leave my truck alone for a while and it enters “sleep” status. same behavior with the tailgate. Pushing the Frunk (tailgate) button a second time causes the Frunk (tailgate) to activate. As with some others, I have experienced my Frunk “frozen” in the open position after leaving it that way for a couple hours…the truck “forgot“ the position when the truck went into “deep sleep”. Manually closing the Frunk caused it to latch and return to normal operation.
I found this thread after mine behaved this way yesterday. I left the frunk open overnight because I had the mobile charger in there and left it open while I charged. When I came back to drive off I would get three sets of two beeps and it wouldn't close. Button, fob, or interior button. Same thing. Eventually my 10 year old suggested just trying to close it manually (which hadn't even occurred to me as an option). After closing it manually everything started working correctly again and the panic subsided.

Could use an informative error message on the dash or something....

Could you be inadvertently trying to program or accidentally programmed a different stop point for the frunk?

the frunk has a bunch of pinch sensors, open sensors, close sensors. I have occasionally had mine get confused. You will always be able to override the electronics by opening or closing manually.

I still haven’t found the beeper switch in forscan but haven’t given up yet.

I've had all these issues with my frunk. I just figured it was designed not to open/close by the button when the truck was locked or something.

Also, mine creaks fairly loudly as it does the final couple inches of closing. Is that not typical?

Not mine. It pops up a little initially when opening but no other noises when opening or closing……

The creaks I heard were just a few times, but they went away. Perhaps it was the weather or something.

The button doesn't seem to work 100% of the time, so I can only assume it has something to do with how long it' been locked. Unlocking seems to wake it.

Mine doesn't creak but I noticed the stops have already wore through the paint into the base metal after opening it maybe 4 times.

Guess I have to get it looked at because mine creaks every time. Bummer.

And yeah, a spot of paint is missing where the stops hit the hood.

Hi there! I can look into your Lightning's concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Lightning's VIN?

I also thought this creak in the final inch of closing was normal. For me it happens every time since day 1.

After reading this thread I took my truck to the dealership, and the dealership stated that the creaking sound is normal. The service tech checked two other new lightnings on the lot and stated that both made the same noise.

I can't tell yet what is causing the sounds. I can't tell if its the two stoppers contacting the inside of the hood, or the hood contacting the frunk tray, or the front grill pulling towards the frunk seals.

I have tried adjusting the stoppers on each side, but I can't tell if it improves or not.

I adjusted the stoppers down a little bit and it still seems plenty tightly closed, but creaks less. It sounded like it was going to break something before.
