Brand new Lightning Lariat owner here (300 miles).
Frunk has not worked correctly since purchase 2 days ago.
It only opens 8 or 9 inches and stops.
I saw a similar thread about this, but it was locked for further comments.
I’ve tried the height reset process many times, nothing. I have an appointment in 2 days, but was hoping someone who had this problem fixed could tell me exactly what was done at service so I could pass it along. Thanks in advance!

There is a process for training the truck to reflect your opening height preference. It’s been discussed here early on. You may want to search for it.

If I recall you will need open it with the button or your fob.

Lift the hood to your desired height.

Press the button to close.

Press the button again to confirm opening height.

Same thing with my XLT, nothing I read in the forums fixed the issue. Took the dealership a week to figure out what was wrong because nothing was sending errors to the computer. In the end they replaced the frunk struts and it’s worked fine since.

Hi there! If you'd like to, go ahead and send us a private message with your VIN and dealer info and I’ll look into this frunk concern. Thanks!

Thank you - the frunk module just needed a reset!
The dealer was great (Northgate Ford) a even delivered the truck back to our house!

I wonder if pulling the negative 12v terminal would have reset the module?

Hey all, thought I'd weigh in on this issue. I've been dealing with the same problem for some time now and being that I'm 2.5 hours from my closest ev certified ford dealer, I figured I'd live with the frunk not opening fully on its own for the time being.

I found this original post as well as a couple other threads and (not sure which thread) luckily, someone posted about what their dealer had written up after fixing the issue.

"Performed self test. No DTC's present. Referred to general procedures in WSM Power Hood Initialization - Electric / FHCM self test. No DTC's present. Performed Power Hood Initialization, and adjusted electric frunk height. Condition is no longer present."

I have a '23 Pro and I installed a front light bar and bed lights that didn't come standard. To activate both installs, i had to purchased a Forscan license ($12/year) so I figured I'd give the frunk issue a try to fix.

In Forscan (I am not expert in the program), I ran a system check, no errors showed. I went into the modules and found the FHCM. I selected it and ran a "self test". The truck made several sounds, frunk fully opened and closed, dash lights turned on and off and the test was complete. I the opened the frunk only to have it open 9" again (argh) but I then manually went through the height adjustment procedure and.... it's working! I'm a little shocked but it seems to have fixed the issue.

Hope this helps, sorry for the long winded post.

Dude! Thank you for this. This totally fixed my half opening frunk which started after they did the battery recall.

One thing I will add is that you don't have to pay for Forscan, you can register for a 2 month trial which is what I ended up doing.

Thank you for getting this solved for me. I Finally got Forcan and have reset the Frunk as you described and the results were spot on. I also disable the double honk on exit. Next project is solving the Parking Sensor error which existed as I drove off the lot in February. Unfortunately I have been waiting two months for my dealer to respond. If I can’t resolve the parking sensors, not the end of the world, but i do consider it a safety issue that is the dealer apparently is not concerned about nor customer service. Maybe will try another dealer. All in all, I love my Lightning and have had few issues on several long trips. Using the A2Z adapter as June deliver looks like August delivery for Ford adapter.

Do you have to buy the Forscan scanner piece? Sorry I’m totally a rookie on this
