Has anyone had success hardwiring the Grizzl-E charger? It comes standard with a NEMA 14-50 plug, and their install manual states that you can hardwire it. However, the terminal lug is some weird metric size that I have a hard time finding. At this point, I am considering cutting the male end off the NEMA 14-50 plug and splicing into my existing wiring using the existing harness.

That’s how my electrician did it. Just cut off the male plug and ran it into the junction box.

When it inevitably fails and you have to send it back, you might not be happy you hard wired. Dealing with their support now to try to get a replacement going.

What type of failure did you have?

I have had two Grizzl-E chargers. The first one was the smart charger I got for my wife's MME. I had a few errors in the first couple of weeks and was ready to call in for a replacement. Then it started working perfectly. I think the heavy-duty relays needed a couple of weeks to break in. Replaced it with a Grizzl-E duo when my Lightning came in and same thing. The first couple of weeks a few errors then no problem since.

They don't seem to like brownouts or quick power fluctuations. It has gone into error mode a few times when the power glitches.

It's a duo, which had no errors or issues as long as I have had it, since sept 2021. We don't have power outages or brownouts, as we have had solar and backup power since before it has been plugged in. One day a couple weeks ago, it was just dead, no lights, no sounds. I opened it up and there was a red light on the inside. Just this AM their support had me demonstrate this behavior on video and then agreed to send a replacement when I send the old one back.

The guy on the phone was super responsive, so if I have one recommendation, it's that you should open a ticket and then call and reference it.

Excellent, I'm glad they were responsive. I actually sent them an email this morning with a couple of recommendations on the power grid glitches. We don't have many but mine seems to be really sensitive.

Glad to hear they are atleast responsive. I like the simple design of it and the aluminum enclosure. Only non plastic charger I could find. Did you check the fuse? I like that these models have a simple replaceable fuse.

I checked all parts of it, I'd much rather change a fuse than pack this thing up to send back for a new one. Used a little usb scope camera thing too, I couldn't find any sign of anything amiss.

I hardwired my Grizzle-e smart with some off the shelf lugs and a hydraulic crimper on 6 awg. It's and outdoor install and has had lots of rain and snow on it and has worked flawlessly since I installed it. Only thing I haven't got working is the smart part. I put in a wifi range extender but just haven't taken the time to troubleshot it.
