My family will be pulling our 21 foot Winnebago trailer from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon next week.
A Better Route Planner has been awesome to esse my anxiety.
There does look to be a dry stretch of chargers between Kingman, Arizona, and Williams Arizona. PlugShare shows three fast chargers in development, but not finished yet on the stretch.
ABRP has me running at a max of 50 mph.

Long story short, any extra recommendations about how to go about this?
And a big stretch….any F150 lightning owners in Seligman or Ash Fork willing to let us pop in for a 30 minute level two charge?

Thx forum!

Is yours an ER Lariat? What are you using for an estimated efficiency?

The tougher part will be that really deep charging session in Kingman. You should be fine if you go about 50 mph, especially if you have a good tail wind. Heading home may be a little tougher as that's more likely to be into the wind.

Have you looked on PlugShare? I see a General Store in Seligman you can use as an emergency charge if needed. They list having a NEMA 14-50 you can use for $10 2-4 hours.

Be sure to stop at Mr D’s in Kingman and check out the Rte 66 museum , it will make your deep charge go faster . We were just there. There is a big tailwind doing east for sure.

Not helping on range but chiming in on Kingman/Williams info (in regards to towing).

Kingman - Both locations are not towing friendly (iirc), I dont recall any stalls where you would not have to unhitch (unless new site and block multiple stalls in a 90/jack-knife).

Original site - V2 stalls only and I believe some temp reduced khw chargers (Burger King, I think)
EDIT: forgot this was v2 and won't work with Ford (I was there in my Tesla)

New site - V3 stalls but in front of the museum

Williams - this is a new site next to the brewery (in town a bit off from the highway).

This area might have had a dedicated towing stall but regardless, it is very spacious (long and wide parking lot) you will be able to pull in straight to charge on most stalls.

I’ve made the Kingman to Williams drive in my SR Pro many times, in both directions. I’m not sure you’re focused on the primary problem: Elevation change.

From Kingman going east to Williams, you are looking at a steep climb of roughly 3500 feet (actually two significant uphill stretches with a dip in between). Heck, I don’t even pull a trailer and my truck burns through roughly 70% of its battery capacity on that trip. I’ve met inexperienced travelers at the chargers in Williams on their last electrons because they didn’t understand the terrain they were driving through. I strongly recommend charging to 100% in Kingman. There is a great Route 66 museum and a retro diner nearby where you can kill time.

Side notes: Wind is not generally a factor; the prevailing direction is from west to east. The lack of charging facilities in Seligman is a head scratcher.

As another commenter noted, the charger layout at both the Tesla and EA stations in Kingman are not trailer friendly. You might be able to pull in at the Tesla station (at the museum) towards the end of the row of chargers without having to unhook. I strongly recommend that you avoid the EA station at Kingman for many reasons, including its geometry.

At Williams, the layout of the EA station almost seems deliberately trailer-unfriendly. The new Tesla station, only a block away, is a little better. It’s worth noting that it’s all V4 dispensers, so the cables are a bit longer.

If it is any consolation, the east to west trip is a piece of cake, regardless of the wind. You will get a massive amount of regen coming down off the mountains.

Looking at history, we charged up to 94% at Kingman and were down to 41% reaching Williams. We’re not towing but carrying 600 lbs additional gear.
On other segments (returning from Zion) we did have low margin so we just drafted behind a large RV at 55 to 60 mph.

Great question. 2022 Lariat Extended Range. 25,000 miles. Put in 1.1 mil/kwh in ABRP.

This is very helpful, thank you. I assume ABRP is calculating the elevation change, but I appreciate the transparency on that.
We'll charge to 100% in Kingman, and maybe grab breakfast at that General Store in Seligman for a little top off.
Worst case scenario, we unhook and go charge up in Williams, then run back and grab trailer. Not ideal.

Would I need this adapter to charge at the store? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3B3TD4...e=cm_sw_r_cso_em_apin_dp_MK4VB7Y4RT9K562A3PCN

No, but the park provides several Level 2 EV chargers. They are located in Grand Canyon Village at Market Plaza, Yavapai Lodge East, and Maswik Lodge. There is also an Electrify America charger just south of the park.

As someone that lives full-time pulling a (~7300 lbs) 25' Airstream with my '23 Lightning Platinum (ER) with a cap and stuff, the weight of pulling things uphill is just as important as speed and wind direction/speed. I stopped using the apps 16 months ago just a month after living full-time and now have my own mental calculation using the range/% guessometer, odometer, and Google Maps distance until destination. ABRP failed me a couple of times even with the OBD reader. It's mentally exhausting but unfortunately I don't trust the software.

I wish you better luck than I had - safe travels.
