@Ford Motor Company I’ve been following threads on here where Ford Mo Co ask for dealership and vin.

this seems mainly for significant drive train or battery issues. Are they actually helping❓❓

My Lightning has been at dealer for 10 days, last 5 just sitting there because they are stumped.
2 lightning problems:
- smart hitch error
- IR cameras never turn off
- dealer has mentioned a side sensor not working - but I never received error for any sensor.

I have no access to ford account (web & ford pass) so they can test problem. However I have other ford vehicles.

I understand how @Ford Motor Company wants to understand drivetrain & battery problems,

but I’d like the same attention because it’s going to be minimally next week, which it will be 2 weeks without my truck because dealer tech doesn’t know how to fix.
similar to drivetrain issues people, I don’t want to be without my lightning.

Thanks for any productive comments.

This isn't unique to Ford. I was without my e-tron for 5 weeks while they replaced the front motor under warranty. When we took my wife's Volvo in for it's annual service, not only did we have to schedule it 3 months in advance, but it then took them an additional week to get everything done after dropping the vehicle off. Staffing shortages and limited parts availability continue to plague many industries.

I'm curious if the IR sensors staying on is an issue or not. I've noticed that mine are on all the time as well and never really thought anything of it. They take next to no power to operate and you can't even see them without the aid of a camera.

My IR sensors operate at random in the middle of the night. I see on my security cam footage thru the windshield. Its a cool light show!

Some night this goes on for about 15min..other nights nothing. Weird.

Man that sucks, I hope @Ford Motor Company can help. I have a feeling I’ll be in the same situation shortly. I’ve already been told 9 days. I hope they understand that at 30 days the lemon law takes effect, at least here in California. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out and Ford learns from these issues for future owners.

@Ford Motor Company does this with every new product they launch. They create accounts on forums, for idk what, and they ask for vin and dealership.

Back in 2011 when the Ecoboost first came out, people were having transmission issues (6 speed) and some turbo BOV blown diaphragms. They'd go to the dealers and the same @Ford Motor Company would ask the same things. The dealers didn't do anything different. Eventually the community learned what the problem was and just fixed what we could or learned to mitigate the issues.

They're just here to data mine for future iterations and fix problems down the line. early adopters have to go through the issues with dealers themselves. lets face it, that's how dealers make most of their revenue, right?

  • Smart hitch could be a connected services issue
  • IR cameras don't turn off. Why do you think they should?
  • Side sensor fault codes are a known bug. You don't see any error cause there is no actual issue that it needs to inform you about

Ir camera: 80k, things should work. They do interfere with some ir sensors in the area. - so yes.
‘I’ve also taken a token sample and most are off.

i also scheduled this 5 weeks out. Understandably a Motor is a straightforward repair. im frustrated that they just let it sit because they don’t know how repair.

what Manufacture leaves a vampire drain on in an electric vehicle? Especially when we see how sensitive the 12v system can be. Also the other few models I’ve had first hand experience viewing, they are off. Also at this point in the process would think the service tech would know if they should be on.

If you see IR in the vehicle when it is off that is part of the intrusion alarm.

If you see IR in the vehicle when driving that is driver monitoring to know when eyes are not watching the road.

Obviously you haven't investigated the Rivian...

Also..vampire drain is a non-issue on the Lightning. Plenty of instances where it has sat for several days with no obvious drain on battery.

Definitely bring up the lemon issue with the dealership. Of course those laws vary from state to state. Dealerships are rewarded if they can stave off a lemon claim and fix the vehicle. But in the end, it's Ford that buys back the vehicle, not the specific dealership. They can usually buy themselves a lot of time by supplying an equivalent loaner while a customer vehicle is being repaired.

I would imagine this dealership, like most, does not have all the tools or trained personnel to fully address this issue. Even if they do, it may be weeks/months before they can get the necessary replacement parts due to all the production constrains.

If it were my truck, I would definitely have them supply a loaner truck. At least equivalent in utility to a well equipped F-150. Don't let them give you a Focus or something totally unrelated in its place. Then have a sit-down with a service manager and work out a plan to get everything resolved.

Just a general comment here regarding a lot of problems I see mentioned for the 2022 Lightnings. Several reports here and elsewhere about heated steering wheel issues, PAAK issues, security functions - especially sensors. These are all features that are now deleted, disabled or compromised on new 2023 builds.
