Lightning cameras - any way to record?

Has anyone found a way to record video using the Lightning cameras rather than having to add a dashcam? It seems so unfortunate to have to add a third party camera system when those cameras are right there. It would be great if you could plug a solid state drive into a USB port and have that record all video.
