Telsa USED to use only 18650's which are NCA - Nickle Cobalt Aluminum, that is Lithium Ion, not Lipo - Lithium Polymer. The NCAs are less safe than some other types of Li batteries say the experts, from a thermal runaway standpoint. The pack uses 18650's. Teslas use 1000's of them in each car. I'll be fine.
But Tesla now uses LFP in some models.
However, Tesla's have fire-proofing, temperature control heating and cooling, etc. with their 18650's.
The new use of LFP type (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries in some models is probably much safer especially at higher temps than LiPO.
So...an NCA or a Lipo battery juper device is not something I'd leave in a car in hot summer weather, for example, because of the risks involved.
Also, cold weather will slow down the charging ability of the cells as well, and cold weather is probably the most common time people need a jump.
Jumper cables - generally speaking, safe to leave in vehicle and/or use in all weather, unless they get hooked up wrong and don't have built in polarity protection of course, or spark venting gases from direct hook up to a battery terminal instead of jumper terminals.
Also jumper cables are generally less expensive.
LiFePO4 is generally safer at higher temps than other LiPo or Li types of batteries, like the temp the inside a car can reach on a hot summer day.
If you can tell what kind of LiPO is in the jumper unit then opt for LiFePO4, and hope for the best if left in a hot vehicle.
