Consumption tax is the most fair tax. All taxes should be consumption tax.

OK, but since I charge my Lightning from my solar panels - who is going to measure the consumption? My system is grid-tied but the electrons go directly to my truck when I charge during the day. My system is producing 7.7kW right now and I charge at 5.5kW.

I think the surcharge on DC fast charging is certainly similar to gas taxes and I agree that we need to pay for roads and bridges. The true cost of fossil fuels with their huge pollution is never accounted for. Maryland so far has no extra EV fee.

No consumption, no tax. Congratulations, you’ve outwitted the government attempts to steal your money.

You can donate to the government’s road budget of you feel you aren’t paying enough taxes. Also, tax dollars are tax dollars. The representatives can vote to re-appropriate them however they like. “Earmarks” are a way to justify raising taxes because “we don’t have enough money”.
