Hello.
302A XLT here with stock 18” wheels. Looking to see if it is possible to run 17” winter tires to save a bit of money. Any negative mechanical effects?
Thanks

The 17 inch wheels may not clear the brake calipers if you have the max trailer tow as I understand the rear rotors are larger diameter.

Are you talking about 17" rims or stretching a 17" tire onto your 18" rim?

I would assume if I don’t have that optional package, it would clear?

No. Some trims like XL and even the 300A/301A comes with stock 17” wheels / tires. I want to run steel 17” rims (black / grey ones) with 17” winter tires. I was just wondering if it will trip any sensors or cause miscalculations in terms of mileage.
Thanks

i am running 17” raptor rims on my 22 limited, so far no problem. I don’t see a reason why a sensor will throw a problem

As long as the rolling diameter of the tires you wish to mount is the same or close enough to your OEM tires, then your speedo and everything associated with it will be fine.

Its always a good idea to try before you buy, just in case. However, when buying aftermarket its not always possible. In this case, they probably would fit.

Sorry for the late reply, if you are talking about the steel OEM ones it will not be a problem. For aftermarkets just stick close to OEM specs and you should be fine as long as you don't have the larger sized break calipers with the max tow package.

If you are looking to purchase, ford also has an 18" steel rim in black that in my opinion look a lot better than the 17" gray ones the XL comes with.

For speedometer accuracy, I don't think you will find an exact match but as long as your close, wint in a couple percent it should not matter.

tiresize.com is a good website to reference if you have not came across that already.
