I’ve used pro power onboard for 4 full nights of AC. AC unit is a 15000btu Dometic. Never heard or felt the engine kick on but the trailer was not attached to the truck. I have felt the engine kick on when the trailer is attached however. No big deal to me.
Based on daytime use observations, the engine kicks on for between 1-2 minutes about 5 times an hour when the AC is on in hot weather, less if it is not so hot. I believe the pro power system uses .97 gals per hour. That’s according to a test someone did comparing gas consumption of the 5000w Honda generator to 7.2kw pro power.
So extrapolating from that I figure I’m using about 1.6 gals during an 8 hour night of constant AC use. This doesn’t account for the fact that the AC compressor does not run continuously during the night and that would reduce the number of times the engine kicks on.
Bottomlime is that pro power is as efficient or better than a gas genny, it’s quieter, I don’t have to lift it in and out of the truck( lol my Champion 4500 genny weighs too much to carry around), and I don’t have to carry gas. I also don’t have to leave the dog in the trailer with the AC on. She can stay in the truck thanks to eco idle. If I have to leave her in the trailer, Ford Pass tells me if pro power shuts off. That did happen once. I think for some reason when the compressor kicked on it spiked and popped the circuit.
Still trying to find some stuff I don’t like about it. I’ll report back when and if I do.
