I paid for my Lightning on October 19th and it already has rust on parts of the axel/suspension (if anyone know what this part is please share, I have no idea and can't find a diagram). Is anybody else seeing such rapid rusting of this or other parts? Is this normal?

that's normal, that's how the factory receives it.... nothing to worry about... it's all brand new, but when you don't 'coat' certain parts, which may not need it, this is what happens.

It's flash rust. The boots and joints will go bad on the axle long before rust causes an issue.

It called "patina" :) Noticed it right away too. It is cosmetic and doesn't impact performance or longevity but I also wish it wasn't there.

You know, if they can economically coat the shock and its lower attachment bolt, they could economically coat the rusted driveline parts. If nothing else, it would keep stains off the driveway. Somebody probably got a bonus for submitting it as a cost-saving idea ... like removing five peanuts from each airline "meal".

You should see the driveshafts of gas F-150s. And the axle / differential. This has been going on for a very long time, nothing new.

Surprisingly surface rust can actually be a good thing as the oxidation or rust actually works as an inhibited of its own right. So as long as the design takes into this naturally occurring thing and doesn’t cause a “cancer” type scenario or structural issue, it at times is better then applying a coating that will equally fail over time.

All that said, I too would prefer no visual rust on my 60-90k truck😳
