Spare tire lock cover went missing, options?

Somehow the cover to the hole where I SHOULD have a spare tire lock went missing. Ford stopped including the actual lock on 23s. I can't seem to find just a cover. The ones I see on eBay that are 3D printed say they're only for up to 2014 F-150s.

Has anyone bought the whole lock assembly and had it keyed for their truck? How much was it?

Or has anyone found just the cover piece?

The lock is available as an accessory if you really want it. A little pricey @ $60 but here it is:

I guess it just fills the hole where the spare is released / lowered.

Try looking in wrecker yards. Some will let wander around. Odds are you'll see a recent wreck and you can just pry one off. May only charge you a few bucks. I've done this misalanious trim pieces.

Personally, I like this option better if I were planning to add a lock. I saw some 3rd party lock options too that are less.

I did not see the cover available alone. 3D printed options are not bad if you have access to a 3D printer. Much cheaper too.

The cover is held in place by the lock. No idea if they make a totally different cover for no lock. But the trucks that shipped without the lock all have a hole, no?

I just looked. Mine has a cover and a hole where the lock would be if installed. I got hopeful that maybe I had a lock after all but no joy.

Yes they have a hole with no lock and just a cover

Yes this is what I had the dealer order as missing standard equipment as part of my deal keyed same key as my other keys. Definitely very happy with it and my locking wheel lug nuts. The build sheet had it listed when my truck was built. Out of two purchases neither had this standard equipment.

Rumor has it these locks were removed because they tend to corrode over the years and then, when you finally need to get to the spare, you can’t access it because the lock is seized.
Crazy as it may be, I think there is an aftermarket version that is all plastic. Go figure.

Not a big fan of rumors myself. I don’t see looking at my lock setup a very likely chance at all of a lock seize up to prevent me from accessing my spare. Being a lock it’s just going to hopefully keep honest people honest. I’ve never seen an official statement from Ford regardless for why it is missing from most folks trucks though. Due to the fact it’s still currently being sold by Ford that hopefully counts for something as far as build quality.

Well, it certainly wasn’t a supply-chain induced chip shortage that made Ford omit them on the 23 and beyond models.
