2021 Bronco 2 door Badlands manual, 2024 Tesla Y LR AWD, 2024 Lightning Flash
There is a place in my garage for both EV and ICE, but having both I do find I’m becoming impatient with the slow application of power and shifting of the automatic transmission in the ICE vehicles. I don’t seem to mind it on the 2001 Expedition or 2007 Toyota Solara, but the 2022 Highlander drives me nuts. My 2021 Bronco is a different story, I love a manual transmission and plan on keeping one in the fleet for a long time. I do need to trim the fleet in 2025.

We have a 2024 Tesla Y and I just leased a 2024 Lightning Flash, so our daily drivers are now both EV’s. If my needs dictated towing heavy or for long distances I’d end up in a F-250. I was on the fence this time around and decided the Lightning should work for my towing needs as I’m under 10K and usually under 30 miles. The idea of spending $3500 in fuel annually vs using my home solar for the Lightning was a major factor.

My wife’s crv was roughly 6 yrs old, starting to enter the “parts need fixing / replacing” phase but still had low miles.

The deniers will not stop, https://www.carscoops.com/2024/06/new-study-finds-46-of-ev-buyers-in-the-us-want-to-go-back-to-ice/

I tried to find the study but couldn’t , they must have cherry picked the information . https://www.mckinsey.com/search?q=electric vehicle
The key word is "considering". If the question is, "would you ever consider buying an ICE vehicle?" Most EV owners would likely say yes even though they have no real intention of switching.

It's also 46% in the US, where globally it's 29%. The reasons cited for the US is charging infrastructure and range mainly, and I feel in the last year since this was published that charging infrastructure has come a long way. This would have been before the larger availability of SuperChargers for more owners.

That's not to say it isn't significant, but it shows that the issue is less about it being an EV, and more about the environment in the US for EVs. That may seem insignificant if your goal is just to paint EVs as failures (even though more than half would buy another), but it more shows that the companies and government responsible for helping to expand charger availability are failing. That it isn't an EV problem, but a US one.

In that case, you could say it for a lot of things lately where other countries are leaving the US behind in certain fields the US would have been an obvious leader in.

Plus the study linked also says:
"Despite the concerns, buyers are slightly more prone to electrification compared to the previous study. More specifically, 38 percent of non-EV owners worldwide would consider PHEVs or EVs for their next purchase, representing an increase of 1 percent from two years ago."

Meaning that there is still significant appetite for expansion of electrified vehicles. Which shows more positive news overall for EVs than negative, but the negative is still an issue for sure.

Here’s another example of ’once you go EV, you’ll never go back’ …
I had the opportunity to talk to an AMAZON EDV delivery truck driver yesterday (the Rivian electric truck).
I was surprised how much he knew about it and answered all my questions. He especially likes one pedal driving. Said he loves driving it and hates driving his personal ICE after work now. lol!

Showed me all around and inside….CCS connector front left fender,
360 degree camera system and collision avoidance, 135 kWh battery good for 150 miles. Single motor FWD, some are dual motor
FWD. Rivian center display with map and camera feeds, heated and cooled seats and heated steering, driver display, one pedal driving capability. DC fast chargers at facility, never gone below 10% charge in a day. Smoothly whirrss around all day long.
Very cool.

Never going back on the pickup, but still have a couple of other ICE vehicles that don't have good EV alternatives.

Looking to replace our Ford Explorer (which has been the perfect family vehicle). We drove a Rivian R1S which was nice, but my wife hated one pedal mode driving.

And still looking to replace the Corvette soft top. Need an electric convertible sports car with a trunk that can hold golf clubs that costs under $100k (and is not a Tesla).
Don't need 2 sec 0-60. Just need open air driving in something a little sporty.
So Rivian allow you to turn 1PD off? dumb decision on their part.

Its because many other EV's do not have ANY regen on the brake pedal. Only recently have Teslas even had that. Many hybrids DO have regen on the brake pedal, so its not like its an unknown thing.

In the Rivian, you could turn down the regen, but could not set it to zero. The lowest setting was still unfamiliar enough for drivers new to it to not like it.
