I used the Tesla pull-in-forward spots with the charger along the left side a couple times on my trip this past weekend. I figured sticking out a few feet into the driving lane was less objectionable than taking two spots.

It was an annoying balance between pulling forward as far as possible which requires being as close to the charger as possible which makes getting in and out the driver door as awkward as possible.

As an aside, I am not sure why Tesla even has those. They would not be useful as a trailer pull-in as they were located in locations where you would be blocking the driving lane.

I did also use a full depth trailer pull-in spot which also had the charger along the left side. There was not as much pressure to pull in as far as possible, but the short cable on the Tesla charger still made it awkward to open the Driver's door while parked at the charger.

Next time try the Tesla towel trick. the NACS handle isn't cooled but the cable is, wrapping a damp towel around the handle has shown to not derate due to heat.
That is one way to test the IP rating of 400V DC device ;)

Bike rack on a Tesla is one reason.
