I traded my Raptor on my 22 Lightning. The Raptor soaked up the ripple and potholes batter than the lightning. I am sure the Fox suspension had something to do with it; however, I am also sure the tire size contributed. I am starting to look at new rubber. I heard that there was a lot of engineering that went into selecting the the current OEM tires size. Is there any reason, besides efficiency, that I cannot put a set of 34" tires on the Lightning?

I would also be interested in recommendations. Our SR Lariat, built in January 2023, came with General Grabber HTS60 tires. These seemed fine, but 7000 km (4350 miles) into their life, one had a sidewall failure on the highway this past weekend - no hazard on the road and no warning.

The vehicle was safely brought to a stop, but now my wife (her truck) doesn't trust these tires. Given these same tires had a major problem with sidewall failures a few years back, she wants them all replaced.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been looking hard at options given the Grabber HTS poor snow/winter performance. I have it narrowed down to 2 options to balance improved traction without killing range.

- BFG Trail Terrain (TFL used these for their Northern Lightning series)
- Cooper AT3 4S

As of now, I am leaning towards the Coopers based on better wet road performance, but they seem to be relatively close overall. Both would be stock size, but 115 load rating vs 116 ( I can live with that).

I have the KO2's on my current ICE truck, great tires. You will take a performance hit.

Tom at State of Charge did a deep dive between the Factry tires and the K02's.

I have been reading about the tire weight. The stock General Grabber are 34 lbs. Most of the AT tired I have looked at are in the 50-60 lbs range. I have the K02s on my raptor, but they are 55 lbs. I just found this article I summary, a 3lb increase in wheel/tire weight yeilded an 8% dercese in efficiency.

I'm considering the following in 275/60/20's

GeneralGrabber A/T X119
BFGALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2 119S
FirestoneDestination XT123 E
CooperDiscoverer AT3 4s123

I saw the following earlier today. and they rate the Continental TerrainContact A/T very high. It's a 115s load rating.

Any thoughts on the above?
The generals and BFGs are both very heavy high rolling resistance tires, so you will take a range hit. The KO2s are great for off road and winter driving though. I loved them on my ICE truck, but was almost a 20% mpg hit.

Nothing's wrong with my tires yet, thought they seem to be wearing a bit faster than expected given I barely have 10K miles on the truck. I'm considering replacing them with a set of Michelin touring tires when it's time. I'm not as concerned about off road performance as I am on road quietness and comfort.

Replaced the AT2 tires that were on at delivery with KO2s - peace of mind over maximum range ...
