Yeah, I think that's exactly what it is. I had these tires on my old truck and nevery noticed it but that truck was a 2500 with a leveling kit so it was a bit taller. These are definitely living up to this feature:An artifact of the larger gaps in the tread I suppose? Is this a common thing among other all terrain tires? I don't have any experience in this realm.
