I've been waing for my truck. I found the truck on the lot over a month ago and they asked if they could use it for a festival locally before selling it to me ('22 Rapid Red BP Lariate 502a).

I took my wife up there to see it today since it was brought back and my wife found a 1" scratch.

The scratch is deep enough that the body shop says they would have to do a whole door repaint and paint half of the door behind to blend it in.

I've read on here that body shop paint repairse might not last as long as factory paint, so I'm worried about having that much repainted on a new $70k truck.

On the other side I'm worried of what issues could that scratch lead to the road. I know it won't rust (all aluminum body) ,but will it lead to paint flaking/peeling?

Any help would be appreciated. I've asked them to give me some time to think it over.

Did you get a picture? Are they offering a discount to leave as is?

Check out chipex, or dr. Colorchip paint match kits. I have very small rock chips that I plan to fix, I’m sure it’ll work with larger long scratches.

They better fix and offer some sort of discount.

The part about paint not lasting like OEM is bs. Paint is paint. Factory does not use anything special.

Have them make it right with a re-paint and move on with life. In a year or two you'll forget all about it. Kind of like breaking your arm when you are a kid...as soon as it's healed you'll forget about it.

The offered a lifetime warranty on the fix that it does not age or act any differently than the factory paint. It is 100% at their cost.

After they offered that I'm now leaning towards letting them fix it and moving on. I will get the truck and they will schedule me for the body shop in April.

And no, no discount was offered. I hinted at keeping it, like " I'd be ok with it if it wasn't a $70k truck" .Next step was to request it if I decided to not have them repair it.

I'm already getting the truck for $4k under it's original MSRP.....I was going to use x-plan, but in the past week the x-plan price has gone up $2k ($67k->$69k) so the original offer of $68 was honored. They said x-plan prices are going up to account for price of materials and since it was a dealer ordered truck, price protection never kicked in for x-plan.

I'm fine with the price I think though. I was hoping to get a $3k PCO or any PCO, but I could never get one. I tried like hell though..LOL

Note it was a small scratch. I would have otherwise just left it, but my wife was concerned due to the price of the truck (she is really frugal). I get that. She is already not 100% happy that I"m trading in our '17 F150 2.7EB Lariat with 15k miles.

I'd have them paint it but would scritinize the hell of the job. The metalic paints can be a pain to match but given this is brand new, it shouldn't be too bad. Make sure they don't over spray anywhere and look at the blending job and paint match from a bunch of angles and in different lights to make sure it does match. Without a doubt GET SOMETHING IN WRITING that they are going to return the truck to factory new condition if you buy it and schedule for it to be repaired at a later date.

The dealer is covering the cost for the repaint of the front and back door. They said they had to do both to ensure the parking matched due to it being a tricolor paint.

It goes in early next month. Hopefully they don't need it up worse.
