Well, I guess had they gone under the amount, instead of over, you may have never known, until you had checked it, or needed a new engine....in 2018, after SPEEDCO changed the oil in our rear-engine diesel motorhome, we experienced a similar, and yes, perplexing 'coating' or 'spray' of some type of something all over our tow hitch bar, tow CAR, and even up the back of the motorhome, as high as 12'... we only noticed it after returning from a short Walmart stop.
I was absolutely SHOCKED at the amount of oil coating EVERYTHING you can imagine!
it WAS the motorhome. Right in front of the engine, down near the lower end, there is a lower 'overflow' hose, or what I call a 'drippy' hose, like a vacuum hose. I never paid any attention to it, until now.
I realized that while the motorhome drove just fine, and there was no reason to initially believe anything was 'wrong' with the motorhome, itself, I did some more digging. Seeing a larger puddle of oil, in a specific place right under the front of the engine, over a short while of sitting in that Walmart parking lot, after returning from shopping, told me volumes...
SPEEDCO had overfilled the diesel engine oil.
It takes 15 quarts for an oil change.
They had filled 25.
Even the paperwork said so.
So, the overflow hose did exactly as it was designed to, unfortunately for me.
I called SPEEDCO and told the manager my issue. They heard my cries, understood their mistake, and refunded my $386 Oil Change charge, although that certainly didn't take care of washing the CAR, the tow equipment, and the whole BACK END of the huge motorhome. It was crazy.
