I placed an order for a base XLT a few days ago and have some anxiety over the price (in my case a $65k MSRP deal) and the thought the truck might not be eligible for the full $7,500 tax credit. If it turns out I'm only eligible for $3,750 I might decide it's simply too expensive and decide not to go through with the purchase.
When I placed the order online the final step was authorizing a $1,000 charge against my credit card as a deposit. Am I right in thinking that is my maximum liability? I have not signed a written purchase agreement at this point. I'm assuming that if I don't go through with the deal I would lose the $1,000 plus the $100 reservation fee but otherwise the only downside would be a little bad blood with the dealer.
I guess we won't know the answer to the tax credit question for several months.
