Hello all!
I've got my fingers ready on a new 2024 xlt sr for $57k out the door and was wondering how everyone's experiences are going from vancouver to kelowna in the winter. I make this trip minimum once a month, and it seems to be my only range anxiety situation.

The highway regularly sees temperatures of -10c-20c and decent snowfall effectively reducing range in the 40-50% average from my research, maybe a little more as I prefer to run studded snow tires here.

Hit me with the good and bad of that hilly drive! I currently spend $700-1000 a month in gas alone as I drive an old truck and do 45,000km a year, do even a SR is a no brainer

In the colder temperatures schedule your truck to warm up 20-30min before your departure and it will do a little better.

Look at an ER if you possibly can, join the facebook lightning canada group for direct contact with users. My ER uses ~35% battery going Hope to Merritt in nice weather at ~115kmh speeds, when it gets below 8°C I notice an increase in power used, when it is raining I notice an increase in power used. You will adore the fuel savings ! If you want to talk to me you can cyberstalk me from the name on the side of my truck.

Hey Glenn, have you done Hope to Merritt in the winter before? My new Lightning Flash is on the AT tires from the factory, so no studs, but likely worse overall. Asking here as I am not on Facebook anymore.

We are planning a winter trip to past Vernon, so this is super helpful ( I just posted about this too actually).

Curious how much worse your state of charge use is in Winter? This will be really helpful as I try to route plan a new vehicle....knowing that you used say 45% in winter for that distance would help a lot with my go-or-no go decision as we approached Hope.

Thanks!

No winter experience here, I have noticed a drop in my range as the temperatures have dipped.
Just today read an interesting post by user @TaxmanHog regarding maximizing your range in the winter which went ~ charge to 95% ... set a departure time 1 hour to 1.5 hours before your actual departure, after the departure program runs through then top off your charge to 100%, apparently he has noted that charging to 100% inhibits the battery preheat process.

Hey sorry one more thing....what tires are you on? Are you on the factory stock tires, the factory AT tires, or something else?

When I tried hwy driving at 115, I got like 37kwh/100km, at around 8*C temps. Hope to Merritt is about 120kms, using 35% means using 45.85kwh, so you hit about 38.2kwh/100kms. That's pretty impressive...

I am on the factory AT tire package

I was on factory AT for a couple months, switched to Geolander LTs after a puncture. My truck is lifted (2") so that might eat some range too
Yesterday I got a taste of winter ... 0-> -4 temps , wet snow, Merritt to Kamloops and back speed about 108 there, about 105 back ... chewed up 42kWh/100
