In Massachusetts there's a rebate program for electric trucks that was recently introduced. The GVWR of the truck needs to be 8501 lbs or more to qualify for an additional $7500 incentive.

I've seen reports that the Lighting weights 6500 lbs and has either a payload of 2000 lbs or 1800 lbs depending on the battery configuration. Based on this, I'm assuming the standard range battery truck weights 6500 lbs with a 2000 lb pay load gives me a 8500 lb GVWR missing the incentive by 1 lb. Do I have this correct? For the extended range, I'm assuming it weights 6700 lbs along with the 1800 lb payload for a similar GVWR to the standard range truck. Either case, it is just shy of the 8501 lb requirement for the $7,500 rebate....

Am I missing anything? It would be sweet to receive $7500 from MA and $12,500 federal incentive (if that happens).

I'm hopeful these numbers are rounded down to a flat 6400 or 6500 lbs. If it really is 2000 lbs of payload and I'm short by 1 lb, that would stink.

It's difficult to order a truck that could have many incentives that are unknown. If the proposed federal EV credit of $12,500 and the truck qualifies for this $7500 MA rebate, I would pick up and XLT+ ER. If the MA rebate stays at $2500 and the federal stays at $7500, I may stick with just the XLT+. Hard to order with the incentives locked down.

The 8500 pound number is an EPA cutoff for light-duty trucks. Trucks below 8500 pounds counts towards the CAFE fleet fuel economy numbers. It's in Ford's benefit to have the Lightning factor into the CAFE light duty category from a regulatory perspective.

The Hummer has a curb weight of 9000 pounds but would be too expensive to qualify for the MA rebate....

CO's state tax credit for EVs also goes up by a cool grand if 8500+ GVWR. Rivian came in at just over 8500 so it's not implausible...

/me is hoping that it'll similarly be 8520 lb or the like.

As a fellow Masshole, that would be a sweet bonus.

It would be especially if the federal incentive jumps up to 12,500. That's why I will struggle ordering the truck until all these incentives are finalized. It could be a PRO all the way to the XLT+ w/ ER depending on incentives.

The extended range may actually exceed 8500lbs as I hoped. This is the from the lightning pamphlet. It appears the ER GVWR is actually 8550lbs which would be assume.

Don't get your hopes up over the $12,500. At this point I'll be shocked if there's any changes to it at all. Just operate under the assumption that it'll still be a $7500 tax credit.

Interesting! So the ER range model would be exempt from fuel economy testing :)

I’m assuming Ford knows what they’re doing here. If anything they have a bit of a checkered past with gaming the fuel economy regs. Wonder if it will end up being derated to 8500 pounds?

Yeah, so, how many miles to the gallon are these electric trucks getting anyway? And why is Ford trying to hide this info from us? /s

Im not referring to the federal credit. In Massachusetts, an EV truck weighing over 8500lbs would receive a $7500 state rebate in addition to any federal incentives.

I hope not! Ideally the official GVWR will be posted in the next week or two so that I'll know if I receive the MA incentive or not. Going to the ER would be a no brainer. It's basically a free upgrade in MA as long as the GVWR is above the minimum.
