Deposit on Ford Lightning
Good luck following your plan in this corrupt antiquated dealer based system. I wonder how you will feel when after all your efforts the dealer will pick 5 who’s reservation numbers were all after yours. What options will you be left with to continue playing your game?

As i said above Ford really f it up by not honoring a true FIRST COME FIRST SERVE system that they were promising earlier for lighting. And sadly you are the casualty of their poor and antiquated dealer system.
Well, unfortunately the concerns I initially raised back in October have proved to be true.

Ford is placing dealers above their customers. First in, First out would have been much more transparent. Unfortunately, dealers deserve as much of the credit for this antiquated system.

A month or two ago, my dealer said they were going to require a deposit for Lightning orders. If orders are going to take years, I’d prefer not to keep a deposit tied up, especially since high demand means they have no trouble selling a ditched order. I’m going to push for no-deposit. Is anyone else thinking the same? I’m also enjoying my power boost a lot, and might choose to just stick with it anyway.

With the “Wave” format that’s been discussed, I’m not sure those will be invited to place an order, without there being some sort of comfort that Ford will deliver, that model year to fill that order. If Ford doesn’t “Invite” you to place an order, how can the dealership prioritize that reservation above someone that gets the invite?

I’m wondering though, if those dealerships that have…. Say 600 reservation, if they will be limited to 25 trucks for my22? How many dealerships are there? 3000 or so? Is Ford trying to spread the trucks out across those dealerships? Who knows what the big dogs talk about when it comes to distributing a new and exciting product to the world?

Spoke with my sales guy, he escalated to the sales manager who was aware of the memo and said for their Houston based dealer they will not be moving anyone up the priority ladder. Also confirmed I am 14th with 367 reservations so hope that means good things.

I just did some math and became a little discouraged.

There are over 3000 Ford dealerships in the United States. Let's be optimistic and say Ford will produce 20,000 Lightnings in 2021.

That means there will be an average of 6.7 trucks per dealership. That's hardly enough to give trucks to all the priority orders, not to mention regular orders

So the priority orders in theory could account for nearly every single 2021 Lightning order. That leaves hardly any chance of a Lightning in 2022... Even for those if us that placed a reservation on day 1.

Hopefully everyone's dealership doesn't give any VIPs priority and chooses to place orders based on reservation number, but the reality is a lot of people are undoubtedly going to get screwed here.

I’m enjoying my PB as well, what a great decision I made when I got that truck, hoping for the same feeling when/if I get the Lightning.

This sounds about right. For those of us who switched dealers this also means going to the end of the line regardless of when we placed our Reservation, I mean unless you tell your salesman you are willing to pay over sticker which to tell you the truth is going to happen. Which will then begin the games.

They will not require an additional deposit, unless you are placing an order. You won't be placing an order, unless Ford invites you to. Ford won't invite to place an order once all of 2022 production is spoken for.

It IS kinda wonderful to know that however long it takes to get my Lightning, I'm not exactly suffering with my Powerboost. :)

I don't see how a dealership can request a deposit until after an official order is put in. So I don't think the deposit would be tied up indefinitely.

Not sure why you’re both saying it like that. My dealer said they will require a deposit when I put my official order in (after Ford invites me into a wave). That’s the deposit I’m talking about. Based on how early I reserved, there is a decent chance I’ll be invited to order a MY22. However, I also don’t expect to be job 1, and have no reason to trust that there won’t be significant delays. I expect being invited to order sometime in January-February, with a good chance it would roll to a MY23. I guess my earlier “years” is probably a stretch, but what are the odds I’d see anything before late Fall (late December) of 2022? Not great, in my opinion. I’m fine with that, but I’d also rather let an order roll without tying up deposit money while Ford irons out production.

OK, so what you meant was even tying up a deposit after an official order is in place. And I guess it could be several months, rather than weeks, but even special order ICE F150's are taking months these days, so that's not a burden just for the Lightning.

I'm driving a 2021 Platinum Powerboost while my 2022 KingRanch Powerboost is on order. My dealer waived the deposit because I have been a customer for 22 years. Also, as much as they want me to feeeeel special, it's not like ANY special order F150 will be something a dealership would be "stuck with". I mean let's keep it real. Lol

By the way, the deposit would have been $500
That's 1 1/2 visits to Kroger these days.

Yup, that’s what I said originally, a deposit on my order ?. I don’t know much about your fancy Kroger ways (no Krogers here), and low-key caviar addiction… ? I know, $500 isn’t the worst, it’s just the principle of paying for the privilege of ordering something that is in no way a burden for the dealership or the parent company.

You are slowly swaying me your way. Afterall, we both see the dealership risk factor as folly. So I fold. ?

Nothing actually fancy about Kroger, but I fetch groceries for 11 ???

Oh the negativity in this thread!

To me it sounds like no one is getting bumped. The dealer gets to pick a few people that normally wouldn't be able to put their order in early.

It doesn't expand the allocation and it doesn't guarantee they get their order built instead of your order.
