The 12v battery has nothing to do with range. The HV battery is used for propelling the truck down the road and the HVAC. Its capacity is what determines your range. The 12v battery just runs the accessories (computer, stereo, windows, sunroof, tailgate, etc.)

BMS algorithms can be different for different 12v battery types, so they may not be compatible if you make a swap. When I had Tesla replace the 12v battery in my car, they replaced it with another AGM battery, but because the chemistry was slightly different, the car needed a firmware update for the new battery.

Oh i guess i was not clear. I want to reduce the weight. 12v lithium battery is about 70% less weight compared to the lead. And right on the software. Except that companies like Ohmmu.com, they sell lithium batteries replacement for tesla, leaf and so on. They don't mention any software update. Actually i will ask those guys on that matter. They should know

I always thought those Ohmmu batteries were strangely marketed as weight savings on a 5000 pound vehicle. On a 6500 pound truck the difference is even smaller. I run lithium batteries on my motorcycles (where weight savings really matter) and I use battery tenders that have a setting specifically for lithium batteries.

The only problem with most LiFePo4 batteries is they are difficult when real cold. There are a new set that have a built in heater if you are in a cold climate.
They do make Lithium like phone batteries too but not sure how good they are.
I have 4 of the LiFePo4 12V I use to power a motor and they seem to be pretty good and lightweight.

Ford once again, just barely on the cusp. I understand real trucks are used differently, and there could be limitations, but Tesla just finished moving all cars to a 12v Lithium Ion Battery. They are much smaller and lighter, which is key for an EV. Will be interesting to see what Ohmmu will have for replacements down the road.

Some of the BMW's are reported to have LiFePo4 in them and I'd think that their charging would have to be programmed to the charge profile. I think one of the Bimmer apps can do that.

There are still a few batteries that claim to be 100% drop in so I assume it has onboard management in the BMS to do that.

This is the one i am planning to use. As per Manufacturer

"batteries feature a full Battery Management System (BMS) within the battery that protects against Over-Discharge, Over-Charge, while providing Thermal Protections and real-time Lithium Cell Balancing. These features make Antigravity Lithium Batteries the longest-lasting, most reliable batteries on the market!"

Worse case i will have to return to lead... want to try though

I will use a H5 dimensions 9.5x7x7" 30amps. I will post my findings here and YouTube

What is the motivation to replace a brand new battery? To save 20 pounds on a 6500 pound truck? I can see coming to a crossroads on replacement when the original 12v dies out of warranty, but otherwise it seems like you're just setting money on fire.

I agree, sounds like a waste of a perfectly good battery that is already doing the job, and should for a LONG LONG time since it's not required to 'turn over' a starter several times a day - but, some will just 'have' to have a different battery, if it makes them feel better.

The AntiG battery will not work.
1st; it wont fit, H5 is over 2" longer...
2nd, the AG's " restart feature will disconnect the battery early and not allow the battery to cycle
below 13V.

yeah, same here, I use Shorai lithium batteries in my motorcycles, swap on day one, but I would NOT swap a battery in any EV. I do run a battery tender on my Tesla when in long term storage because the HV bms stops maintaining the 12-v battery during deep sleep, and it goes flat, so it becomes impossible to open doors or the frunk to access/jump the battery (there is a manual release but a PITA). The bms for any EV 12-volt is pretty sophisticated, and presumably specific to the battery type, so just tossing a different charge-type into an EV seems a bit riskier than in an ICE. Tesla apparently did a lot of engineering to make the switch to lithium 12-volt batteries last year.
