Got a call from my F150L dealer about incoming abandoned MME - highest offer / bidder gets it ?

So while my current year old reservation for the F150L is on hold for most likely a 2023 MY, I get a call from the same dealer who I placed an MME order for my wife saying an incoming customer ordered abandoned MME is available with same color, trim, options - as my wife's ordered MME 4 months out.

He says they are taking offers on an incoming MME and wants to know how much over MSRP and how much of a deposit I was willing to make ?

I ask him how many people has he contacted - he would not say a number.
Asked how much of a deposit can sway the dealer - he would not say a number.
Then asked so what's the chance I'd get it at MSRP - he says probably very little chance.

After this dealer BS about offers over MSRP (another way of getting ADM), it left me with a bitter taste.

Should I just pull both F150L and MME orders to a different dealer ?

Does my $100 and $500 deposits transfer to a dealer that doesn't play games ?

My understanding is that if your order is already in (not reservation) then the order is with the dealer, not Ford. If you try to take the already submitted oder to a different dealer you are essentially abandoning the order and starting over again with the new dealer. Reservations can be transferred with no penalty. If the order is already sent, then you changing gives them another vehicle to pull the same shenanigans that you are reporting. If they will sell you the ordered MME at MSRP in four months then you are probably better off just waiting.

An MME customer successfully transferred an ORDER. Called Ford, a week later it was transferred.

OP's dealer sounds like a scumbag.

If Ford will transfer the order, then it is probably a great idea to reward better behaving non-scumbag dealers.

Yup, funny how my ordered vehicles - both F150 and MME have ZERO ADM - but the games this dealer plays with an incoming vehicle is appalling to me who placed both vehicles ordered thru them.

I would think that since I have 2 orders - they would at least make the courtesy of selling me the in transit MME at MSRP as they are receiving my ordered MME 4 months later and can make a huge ADM on top of that.

But then car dealers are not known for being courteous or professional....

Tell them the reasonable thing you want (make the inbound vehicle be your ordered vehicle). Tell them you are active online and would like to share a positive experience with their dealership rather than negative experience. Report back and name names.

So let me get this right, and just playing the outfield. Dealer called you about a car thats coming in, if you would like to buy it you could bid on it being a high demand vehicle. This isnt your vehicle that they havent added a premium on, just reaching out to see if you want one earlier? Am I missing something or are we just being picky when i has no bearing on us at all?

Just remember that MME can't be ordered anymore for this year and have a major price increase for anything that hasn't been invoiced by this Wednesday. So the dealer has no incentive to do the right thing.

Right, in 2017 when F-150s were 30% off I dont remember anyone saying thats too much let me pay more? So when capitalism isnt in your favor suddenly its wrong? Strange times in a 1st world country what we find fault in.

Other than doing the right thing in the customer relationship.

The best dealers-- the ones that are going to survive the upcoming purge will be the ones that realize a good business relationship is more valuable than a quick buck.

Example: I have a Ford guy in SW Va. I've now bought 2 vehicles from him in the last 10yrs and my parents bought 2 more. I know of 3 more bought due to my recommendation to friends/family.

Dealers that are trying to screw over customers in this HOT market are screwing themselves in the future when the market returns to normal.

Dealerships think about long term relationships.

Many salespeople do not.

I've talked to a couple of local dealers who claim that any customer order will be MSRP. However, they acknowledge any stock MME or abandoned MME they get will be marked up. I just saw a GT on Saturday that they are asking 5000 over. Another local dealer wants 10,000 over on his stock model just arrived. FYI , MME ordering just completely shut down on Friday so there are no new MME orders for the year at any trim.

I agree with Kevin C. It seems that most dealerships mark up stock inventory and abandoned orders above MSRP. An abandoned order essentially becomes dealer stock and there are supposed to be safeguards in place by Ford to validate the abandonment. However lots of games can be played to cause a customer to "abandon" an order to bypass Ford's scrutiny.

He talked to a couple. A couple is not "most". I don't believe that most dealers are selling dealer orders or abandoned orders above MSRP.

Call around to other dealerships and ask if they are willing to commit to no more than MSRP. You'll find at least one in Socal. I was able to find one in the Bay Area. Then tell them that you want to transfer your order to them. They will work with Ford and get it changed.
