Anyone else watching this company? https://www.atlismotorvehicles.com/ I like a lot of the things they are trying to do, but its clearly a long way from production.

I have all but stopped paying attention to startups. It is fun to think of the cool stuff they could produce and knock off the big guys while they're flat-footed on EV development, but so many companies overpromise and under deliver. Marques Brownlee had a good video on this recently and he mentioned Atlis:

Clearly it is very hard to grow a car company to a sustainable state. I think most of these guys are hoping they get enough good technology together that a manufacturer simply buys them before they run out of runway. I'm still hoping that Ford picks up Rivian down the road a ways and turns the R1T into the Ranger. :)

I was following the Atlis for a while, when they started spamming my email with investors wanted solicitations, I unsubscribed from their email list.

The only tangible item they had to show at the time was a full size unfinished plywood shell.

Exactly my issue with them too. I was pondering investing but their constant solicitations made me think twice and decided against it. Too many competitors are too far ahead...

I am an investor, but I do not expect their truck to hit the market for several years.

Yes, I am watching them closely, they are a long way off though, they're still getting through growth development pains with the cube cell design. The truck part of the operation continues development.

Also invested a chunk of money in them, I know it's a big risk, so I hope they succeed with the promise of ultra fast charging.

I have been watching them from the beginning. They seem to be on the way to production. Going public this fast may work out well for us investors.

I'm an investor, but don't hold your breath on them delivering a production truck in the next three years...hoping they WILL be ready in three years when it is time for me to trade in my Lightning.

I don't understand why so many startups dive into consumer vehicles - a product that is complicated to produce and logistically challenging to maintain without an existing service network. Atlis is promising some nice IP in the form of their batteries and charging solution, but why force yourself as a company to build the entire vehicle? Is it because none of the auto manufacturers are interested in buying their components? Or are they too far away from actually delivering them? Or are they just riding the Tesla buzz wave where they can be another disruptor?

Honestly, for many of these companies it's sort of scammy. They can trot out a concept and make up some compelling numbers. Everybody wants to get in early on the next Tesla, so they can generate mountains of cash from investors. Their top level execs can pay themselves a hefty salary. String the whole thing out for several years and eventually shut it down and move on to the next project. Or take their millions and retire.

Agreed - though I think a buy out is the goal for many of them.

Elon has been clear about this too, in relation to Tesla - the breakpoint is not the idea, or the R&D, but rather the manufacturing-at-scale. I recall him noting the "newest" surviving US car company prior to Tesla was Chrysler, 1926.
