Sure, why wouldn’t I? At the end of the day I just wanted an electric pick up truck.

1.6 mi/kwh is not great … did you happen to climb any mountains ? Hauling 5000lbs in the truck ?


At 1.6mi/kwh and 100% trip charge
SR 98kwh - 156 mi range
ER 131kwh - 209 mi range

At 1.6mi/kwh and 90% daily charge
SR 88.2kwh - 141 mi range
ER 117kwh - 188 mi range

At 1.6mi/kwh and 80% daily charge
SR 78.4kwh - 125 mi range
ER 104kwh - 167 mi range

And this is assuming one can use the full battery capacity.

This is actually close to what I expected for real world driving. And why I opted for the SR. Going to the ER only yields 42 extra miles for the average day, at a >$18,000 extra cost.

A 9 MPH headwind will make a big difference. It’s like driving 79 instead of 70. Energy required varies with cube of the speed. I can lose 0.5 M/kWh or more in my more aerodynamic Mach-E under those conditions.

This is lining up to be very similar to the 75D (rated 259) when I drive fast with respect to a standard range estimate (rated 230) Will be great for a truck, and seems closer to reality. Still the adjustment for some will be understanding effect of outside forces.

I disagree a tad here as someone who lives in the great white north. That number will reduce significantly in the winter (-20C is not uncommon), so I am worried. If we also assume a 50% reduction when towing the airstream, its not great, given the charging networks are pretty bad.

that’s fair, I’m in MN but I also don’t tow anything just use bed for yard stuff. Need them networks updated!

Yup, the headwind is a big factor, and I think OP said they were driving 75. 1.6 miles per kWhr at an effective 84mph is pretty good!

At -20C, you will lose about 40% from temperature alone.

Isn't that assuming that the battery is clamped at ambient temps?

Slowing down will do a lot to decrease consumption/ increase efficiency.
Someone needs to do a range test at 65, then 70, and then 75 and see the difference. I bet you lose 15 to 20% between 65 and 75mph.
