@rugbysecondrow I want to thank you for being candid about your feelings, knowing some people would jump on you!

There are probably many who will benefit from your experience.

Those who drive full size trucks know the size, but we know that about 75% of sales are new to Ford. I would assume many are new to full size trucks. It is a big step up in size to many, who may not realize how big a full Size really is. That may be a shook.

Regarding the Regen, I am not sure what changes in sport mode, but I assume Regen is turned up (as it is in many EVs), even if not full 1-pedal. Regen is very frustrating at first, but almost everyone I know who converted came to love it. But as you were already in a disappointed mindset with the ruck, this is another big change that feels like a negative. I strongly think you would become accustomed to it and love it, but agreed it is a huge change that makes driving unpleasant until you get the hang of it.

On the quality, luxury trucks have come far and have many features, but the overall luxury is still a step down from true luxury vehicles! They are not going to compare to other luxury vehicles in the price range - an XC90 is going to feel much nicer, especially at the touchpoints of plastic you will feel in the F-150.

Overall, I hope this post helps others understand that jumping from a luxury car to an electric truck is a big change on 3 fronts: luxury downgrade, driving experience change, and a much larger vehicle to drive.

OP is new to Full size trucks and new to trucks with enough power to make sport mode work. Sport mode in my 3.5 ecoboost lariat increases response, holds lower gears longer and downshifts hard. I prefer tow/haul mode. As far as quality of materials and appearances, that’s personal preference. I probably would have kept that to myself and moved on. Others seek validation.
The Lightning Lariat is the same size as short bed crew cab Fords of the last decade. That can be too big for people used to compact and midsized cars. Even luxury cars are smaller.
To each his own.

I am thinking of the same dilemma @rugbysecondrow had about the size as well.

Having owned a full sized V8 truck about 20 years ago, I'd have to be concerned about the turning radius after getting used to very tight turning radius of unibody crossovers and sedans for the past 20 years....

Now starting to think about this as I planned on using the truck for daily commuting (urban, So Cal traffic) less than 25 miles per day.

Ford is a "new" brand to me as I have owned primarily BMW, Land Rover and Hondas.

Guess will see how I feel about the Lightning soon as my truck is being built....
I am not worried about size, the Lightning will likely feel small after my Raptor. That said, I did take my previous F150 down to NYC (Manhattan) for a day and that was.....interesting. not something I would want to do on a daily basis. Most parking garages just looked and said - nope!

Full size trucks are more at home in the suburbs and rural areas.

It's funny to me Ford always has cheap grills.

I rember my 2011 XLT when you closed the hood, it felt the grill was about to snap off. Felt so cheap!
My 2018 Platinum Grille was not cheap. 983.00 to replace after an accident. We have an E series Mercedes and our 2021 Platinum Power boost is as comfortable and well done inside. The Massaging seats and 7.2k pro-power on board along with an auto opening and closing tailgate and it's brilliant.

We also had a New Bronco and it was 4 door Badlands. The Ops choice of Two door manual Bronco tells me size and price are important traits and the Lightning wasn't fitting the bill on either one. I get it, thanks for sharing OP!

Did we ever find out color of this truck?

It was difficult to pick a color because there was no way to see what colors would look like with light bar, grille, wheels, etc

I’m sure certain combinations will look much different than imagined.

I also agree that if I don’t love it when I see it/drive it, it doesn’t make sense to spend the money just to be an early adopter.

The lightning was so close to getting a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score until @rugbysecondrow came along--now it's only 99.98% ;)

Thanks for sharing your opinions and observations. Main takeaway is that it's going to be a shock to jump into the Lightning if you've never driven a half-ton truck. I think this will be an issue for a bunch of first-time truck owners coming from Teslas, etc.

Personally, I think it's going to be a pleasant experience moving from our Ram 1500 to the Lightning

Other takeaways/counterpoints
-Lariat fit and finish isn't as nice as a Volvo for sure and the Lariat will be a step below the Ram 1500 Limited.
-Sport mode isn't for everyone--I guess that's why they let you turn it off?
-Similarly equipped ICE half-tons aren't much cheaper than the Lariat ER. A Powerboost Lariat ER is over $70K with the same options/packages

I kind of see this as "each to their own". I also reserve the right to not buy the truck if it doesn't feel right to me. That being said, Im so emotional involved in waiting and wanting this truck - Im not sure how rational I can be when I have my 15 minute test drive. haha. steve

To be honest, Sport Mode was to unpleasant to drive, I had to turn it off. It wasn't the acceleration, but how quickly it decelerated when I took my foot off the pedal. In Normal mode, there is some coasting, but not the same with Sport mode.
You do know that you can release the pedal slowly and get less of a deceleration then if you just take your foot all the way off the pedal.

Not so much price as value. I got a 2-door because, well, I find the 4-door Broncos to be unattractive. I got a manual because it is just plain ole' fun to shift gears sometimes.

It is funny that everybody is keying in on the size comment...the main deciding factor was value. Looking at the Lighting and driving it, in no way did it look or feel like an $80K vehicle. That is my take, to each their own.

I was emotionally vested in the Bronco ordering process...not the Lightning. Once I saw it, not getting it was a pretty easy decision to make. Driving it made it a little harder, but then I looked at it again.

I drove a demo at my dealer yesterday. It was fantastic. Very quick, I chirpped the tires at 50 mph. Smooth ride, blue cruise worked well but I only used it for 5 mins. Quite as could be, more quite then my nephews model 3. I had not problem with the ride or front end. I tend to drive trucks till they are dead from age so I can see owning this for a long time unless I trade it in for next year's model.
