The tailgate "removal kit", if I remember correctly, is just a plug you put in the socket when you disconnect the cable going to the tailgate. It keeps dirt out of the connection.
I actually just discovered the seats lock when cleaning the truck this weekendThe key also locks the rear seats down to secure the under seat storage. Fob key does that as well.

You lock the back seats and the storage compartment that flips up out of the floor becomes "lockable storage".
I understand, but why? Maybe for my gun...
Think about anything that would fit in there that you would want locked up. A bag of money. A laptop. Maybe you have a really nice lunch packed and you don't want the kids getting into it. That's why. It doesn't have to be a gun.
