I found a Lightning Lariat on a local dealer's site priced at MSRP and contacted the dealer about it to find out if they would be selling it without any markup. The dealer confirmed for me in writing that they would not be marking up the price and asked me to schedule me for a test drive. So, I went in yesterday for a test drive and fell in love with this truck. Seriously, it is everything I want and it rides better than my Mustang Mach-E First Edition on the terrible roads we have in downtown Chicago. Even my wife, who wants nothing to do with a truck seemed to love it. When we finished the test drive, I asked to have them work with me on the purchase and they responded that they could not sell it to me because it is a demo unit and they have to let it hit 6 months as a demo or 6,000 miles before they can sell it. Why the heck was there no mention of this before I came in for the test drive? Needless to say, I left disappointed, but they at least assured me that I would be first in line to buy the truck when they are able to sell it. Crossing my fingers that pans out.

So, I guess I'm wondering if anyone has been successful purchasing off the dealer lot with a Lighting yet and without ADM. If so, if there have been any in northern Illinois or even over into Northwest Indiana or Southeastern Wisconsin, please send me a DM and let me know what dealer. 😉

nope, dealers can't sell their DEMO Lightnings until after 6 months... which makes most of them into December or next year before they can. No dealer is going to tell you something 'negative' before you even get to see or drive the truck... that's not in the spirit of how sales works. They want to 'capture' your attention and desire, and only THEN let you down easily ...

a very few Lightnings may have been sold 'from dealer lots' only because a ordering customer decided to forgo their delivery - but that is VERY rare. Dealers love it though, because it gives them carte blanche ability to drive the price up as much as they wish, even if they might see an ordered or demo unit at MSRP. Even Tim Barts at a large dealership in Salina KS admits that while they don't add costs to any ordered vehicles, they DO add money to 'dealer stock' units.

Thanks. Yeah, I was kind of afraid of that. Oh well, I guess I will keep an eye out for canceled orders or hope that my dealer gets some stock in at some point in the next couple of months...

I got mine yesterday off the lot. They said it was not a customer decline or anything, just random inventory sent to them. No markup. Found it originally on cars dot com. Called them last tuesday and asked if it was available, they said yes, and that they don't mark-up.

Yep. Some dealers do get random stock. It’s seems that they are all Lariat SRs with blue cruise, spray in bed liner, and floor mats.

A dealership near me had one in transit that was unclaimed but I willed myself to hold out for my ordered ER truck.

Yep, exact config. Another dealer near me had a grey one with same config too. They were marking up 35k though.

I had a deposit and purchase agreement on a dealer stock Lariat SR at MSRP for weeks. But it never arrived from the ramp. I passed on two others dealers called me about in the meantime, before jumping on a Lariat ER on Thursday (also MSRP).

The SRs were blue sticker, but the ER was an abandoned customer order.

There are plenty out there.

I wouldn't say there are "plenty" out there, but they exist. Lots of the aforementioned SR Lariats have shown up recently, but I think most of the ones from dealers that don't mark up have been sold.

I had a deposit for MSRP on an ER lariat demo unit, but I refunded that when I found a Platinum closer to home. It was an abandoned order and I worked them down to $5k over, which I'm not happy about, but still works out to be significantly less than a 2023 Platinum would be. I also learned that the demo wouldn't be eligible for the tax credit because it was in NY state which requires demo units to be registered. There does not appear to be a program similar to the Mach e program where Ford will credit the dealer $7500 to make up for the loss of tax credit for the customer in states that require demo units to be registered. They may detail the program once the demo units start to become saleable, but I did not want to risk it.

The first-delivered mannequins or demo units will be eligible for sale soon, some already. I initially had a deposit on a Lariat ER demo configured just as I wanted. Pulled my deposit once my own order was submitted and confirmed. That particular unit will be eligible for sale at the end of November. It's been in the showroom the entire time. People have sat in it, myself included. They had another one just like it in a different color they were using for test drives. ...I would assume someone else has spoken for it at this point.

For those looking at buying a demo unit, some details will vary by state as some states force dealers to title/register them. Most states have stipulations on mileage and "new" car sales so many are forced to register the vehicle or that it must be sold as used once it has a certain number of miles on it. Even if they can sell the demo as new, keep in mind it's been sitting there for at least 6 months, burning up the manufacturer warranty and is now the prior model year. OTOH, the 22's have all the available options on them. Those of us getting a Lariat in '23 are not getting the heated steering wheel, cab intrusion sensor, onboard scales or smart hitch. If not for my truck going into production last week, I would probably be back at that dealership seeing if that demo truck is still available in a few weeks.

A lot of larger dealerships, especially in ZEV states, are getting some stock inventory Lightnings here and there. Most are Lariat SR as others have said. If you don't take it camping and you don't tow much or do long road trips, the SR could be a great truck.

I'm suspicious of any dealer who says that they simply received a 'Lightning out of the blue' for stock... with over 200,000 CUSTOMER reservation still outstanding, I highly doubt that Ford has decided to skip all those future orders to simply provide a dealership a Lightning they don't have a customer order for... that makes no sense.
I suspect that these are customer-ordered CANCELLED purchases. The dealer may not want to admit it, as it surely sounds better to a potential 'off the street' customer who might be oblivious to the last 17 months of the rest of us 'waiting' in line for one.

I'm calling BUNK on this one. If the window sticker is the same color as anyone who ordered one, then it's a customer-ordered vehicle, NOT a demo or simply 'dealer stock'.

I would be very surprised to find Pros at MSRP. Those things are winning lottery tickets.

Lariat SRs, though... Spend the morning on the phone. You'll find one at sticker.

Super easy to tell. The dealer stock units are blue, the customer orders are green and say "SPECIAL ORDER" at the bottom.

Extremely shitty of Ford to have shipped any dealer stock while many of us were still waiting with reservations. But here we are.

Supposedly dealers were supposed to call their reservation holders and offer them a chance to order Lariat SRs and they only got the stock unit if everybody said now. But it seems like many dealers - including the one I reserved at - just didn't bother making the calls assuming they'd get a truck they could mark up. Now they've got a less desirable trim truck sitting on their lot and they aren't selling for big markups. Also, sucks that Ford stuck to allocations rather than telling dealers they could only have 'em if they closed a sale with a reservation holder.

Here's one:

Blue sticker. Could be had tomorrow for MSRP (though they will try to get you to pay markup first).

I picked up a '22 Lariat SR at my local dealer on Friday for MSRP. They originally had it with a $15K markup. I have an order through them for a '23 Lariat that has a build date of 11/14, so I used that to my advantage. Bird in the hand with another on the way.

The only difference is the one I bought is tricolor white and has blue cruise added as an option.

I was very lucky to get this. I'm especially happy because I got it for the original price and not the jacked up price, saving me $7,500.

Batteries are scarce, and they know they can sell every SR they make, with more margin than the LRs. Wouldn't be surprised if this is just Ford padding their numbers for a quarter or something.

In the end it doesn't matter the reason, if you're in the market for a Lariat SR then you can get one pretty easily.
