I don't really understand why this hasn't been bigger news. My 2023 lightning stopped talking to Fordpass almost a week ago.

First, I chatted with Fordpass, they said it is a known issue and are working at it.

Two days later, called Fordpass. They brought up my VIN and the rep said "Oh, we're supposed to tell you that this is a 2023 wide outage, and that a fix will be available in FEBRURARY. But, I can go into the dealer to see if they can reset my modem.

I did that - went to the dealer. Dealer said they tried yesterday to fix it with a different vehicle, but no luck. They talked to a Ford global technology specialist who said expect an update to be available at the end of February or perhaps early March.

How is it that Ford can sell a vehicle so heavily reliant on a (less than awesome) app, and then simply be okay with a 2 month outage for that. Infuriating.

Not sure exactly what your issue is. FordPass is working for me and I assume others. I don't think there is a widespread outage.

But If you are hitting the modem bug that others are seeing, disconnecting the 12v battery OR just pulling/restoring the #9 fuse can reset the modem.

Sounds good will try it. Can’t hurt. Honestly though this is what ford has been telling me.

Even though many of us have been muddling through by pulling the 12v battery connection, that is only a workaround. I agree, for a vehicle that is so app dependent, they have got to be more timely about getting these things working.

I just so happen to be learning about lemon law buybacks lately, and what I have discovered is that many of the things we have been grinning-and-bearing are the kind of thing that could absolutely qualify under lemon law in many states.

I'm not saying that I have any immediate intention on giving up my truck. Overall, I still love this truck. Just that it's important to keep in perspective the gravity of some of these flaws. And this is likely why FMC is so tight-lipped about things, lest they go on the record about anything at all.

Prior to this, my daily driver was a 2016 Hyundai Sonata PHEV. When the battery died, still in (EV powertrain) warranty, they ordered a new one. That was August of 2022. Hyundai said it would be a few weeks at least. OK, no big deal. I then got my invite to order my F150L a week later. I knew that I would be coming up soon, and was planning to keep my Hyundai anyway. So no stress, if that battery takes a month or two to come in, I still had another vehicle to drive anyway, and before long, my LIghtning would be in, and it wouldn't matter anyway. So I would check in with them every few weeks to check on the ETA of the battery. Every time I called, the battery was arbitrarily out another month. It became quite clear by December that they had no idea when the battery would actually arrive. When they finally said "late January", I had heard enough. 5 months is too long to wait for a repair. I was no longer reliant on the car, but I did have plans to make it a company car and allow my employees to use it for out of town trips. I loved that car, and was not eager to get rid of it. Well, once they said "late January", I knew they were just making it up. I started discussing lemon law buyback, and they immediately started the process. That was about a month ago, and I am finally getting traction to get through the process. I don't want to give it up. I would really prefer a battery, so I could keep the car in service for several more years. Insurance is cheap on it, and it gets great average fuel economy.

But to make a short story long, these types of issues where major advertised functions of the vehicle don't work for months at a time are entirely unacceptable, and it's important that we don't grin and bear it, but instead get to the dealer and log a case. Start the clock running. It's important that FMC sees the wave of dealer reports on these issues, so they understand the importance of them.

(I have no axe to grind with FMC. My first car was a 78 FOrd Grenada, and I have owned at least half a dozen fords since then, including the only other brand new vehicle I have ever purchased, an 05 F350. I am a Ford shareholder as well, so it is not my goal to cause the company any harm. But they need to make this right, sooner rather than later)

Dumb question. Based on the below link the #9 is the inclination sensor in the body side fuse box? There appears not to be a #9 in the under hood.

I don't see an attached diagram. I don't have one for the Lightning fuse boxes, I'm just relaying info from another member here who said pulling the #9 fuse did the trick.

Hmm well based on the body control fuse box which is located in the passenger footwell, I would actually guess that fuse 8 ( Telematics control module. Power tailgate control module.) is the one you want. The other guy said fuse 9, maybe he made a mistake, not sure.

So I disconnected the battery this morning and it seemed to work. App is now updating, though my interior chimes are now the ford default. Hopefully that fixes itself soon.

Would be amazing if ford new what they were talking about ever.
