I've been having an issue with my truck's charging settings that I want to share and see if anyone else has experienced it.

Whenever I set my One-Time Max Charge Limit to 100%, it starts charging immediately, even if there's ample time left in my preferred charging window. But, if I change the limit to 99%, the software operates as expected and waits until the start of the preferred charge time.

Check out the video I made showing how it works:

Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution? I'm using a Ford Charge Station Pro with 80 amps.

That would be the same as using the app to tell the truck to start charging to 100 now.

I've used/edited the "Use preferred charge settings" to request charging to 100% with time constraints based on a starting time of the middle of the night. Usually this works well, though occasionally the truck/fordpass will toss a warning that I might have to charge outside my prefered window to reach the goal. Ironically the algorithm for that warning is based on a 32 amp FMC so the FCSP running at 80 amps indicated actual 75 amps finishes the job well within my charge window.

The only time I use that slider is when I am at the DCFC to limit my session to 80% while immediately charging, this always works perfectly and the truck commands the DCFC dispenser to Stop charging when the battery reaches that goal.

That's how the truck treats it, but why the change in behavior between 99 and 100%?

I can only speculate that 100% implies start now instead of as scheduled.

Two things here I've noticed in my truck.

1. the software for the screen has different information than the dash screen. This comes to charging finish times as well. Next time you try to charge to 100%, check the time on your dash to see if they align. My truck is very close up to 99%, but changes quite drastically when setting things to 100%. Based on my charging, I think the dash software is what the charging goes off of and seems more accurate when charging to 100%.

2. With the above in place, the charge rate from 99% to 100% is very slow as it slows down to a trickle charge of 1kWh and takes about 6-8 hours. The Ford dashboard software includes this into the calculation and starts charging immediately as it thinks it won't finish within the preferred charging window so it just starts charging.

Our resident battery experts have mentioned the last few percentage points only take in energy at a very slow pace, 1-3 KWH max depending on 120v or 240v EVSE.

The accuracy of the amount of total energy and the BMS measurement of same and the projected SOC 99% or 100% can be off when comparing one truck to another, the battery also needs a period of time after charging to allow cell balancing to complete and render a more accurate SOC.

My last big road trip on 2/29, showed that if I charged to 95%, as early as possible, then allow for a two-hour window prior to departure to top up to 100% and simultaneously pre-condition the battery in cold winter conditions, the truck reached 99%, but as soon as I unplugged it popped up to 100%. For those folks not in harsh cold condition that final phase of 5% charging is likely shorter.

I hadn't seen that but I don't know if I've ever done a pre-set charge to 100%. It definitely appears to be a software bug.
