In MKBHD's video about the Matte Black Lightning, at the end he mentions that Ford have sent out an OTA update enabling ProPower to be able to be switched on with the other truck systems still off. Of course, we know this hasn't happened yet, but he must have heard this from a Ford representative and despite the confusion about the OTA already going out, this is the first I've heard of this. It would certainly be welcome. Have we heard this from anywhere else?

Hopefully we get an update for that. Don’t hold your breath.

Of course even if OTA was available, it does not mean you can simply download and install it with only a few hundred tries.

The press release for the PB edition has a bullet point that says “Pro Power Onboard now works while the truck is switched off; plus, it features an updated visual appearance so customers can better understand the truck’s power levels”.

I would imagine it’s just software so should come to all of us. But I’ve yet to see any official source say so.

One thing to keep in mind is that this on the list of differentiating features of the Platinum Black. If we do get it, it won’t be before those are sold.

It also said it was equipped with BC 1.2 and we have already seen that the latest version being rolled out is 1.3. So I wouldn’t take everything listed here as the gospel. Things are changing fast.

Yea but this bulletpoint is right next to BlueCruise 1.2 with Lane Change. And we're all expecting to get Bluecruise before the end of the year.

We also have to keep in mind that this is a 2024 model. I don't think we have much info on 2024 changes. The fake charging port is obviously gone. There could be other hardware changes needed to make Pro Power work with the truck off.

I am wondering if originally, truck had to be on so 12V battery feeding the inverters and any other relevant systems is kept alive. If pro power can run with the truck off, does that mean once 12V battery reaches a minimum SOC, the pro power will be shut down?

Have any of you used the pro power during outage over night straight without having to worry about restarting it as is?

The not so subtle difference is that BC 1.2 (and 1.3) were announced for our trucks before the PB was introduced. Does that matter? IDK 🤷🏼‍♂️

I suspect changes to the 12V battery charging schema will be modified so it’s not an issue. At least, I’d hope so.

I don’t understand your second question. I’ve used it for several hours (truck running) without issues. There is a setting to shut off PP at some minimum HVB SoC.

I’ve run an air compressor and battery charger for hours and the HVB SoC hardly changed.

I thought there was another timer that turns off pro power after a few hours. I must be misinformed.

You might be thinking of the vehicle shutdown timer. It defaults to 30 minutes and you need to disable it to use PP for extended periods.

On a different note, if I left the accessory on or for some other reason 12V battery is low and I want to fill it up, is there a downside to disabling the timer and leaving the truck on so HV battery can charge it?

Just put a battery tender on it. Looking into the frunk, connections are under left panel.
