It read the speed limit wrong. That part you left out.
It read the speed limit correctly as 70mph. Then the driver had the +20 set, so it accelerated to 90. That part you haven't denied.

It doesnā€™t work that way. It read the speed limit as 90 (not 70) and my setting of +20 allowed it to accelerate to 90. End summary: it read the sign wrong.

No, it reads the sign as 70, and sets the speed to 90, based on your setting of 20 over.

I have been driving these vehicles for over 2 years, and am very familiar with the setting. I have mine set to 3 over.

There are many posts like yours. People have it set to +20, it does what it is designed to do, and they blame the technology, instead of accepting that they didn't understand it.

So, if I set my cruise for 73 and then it reads a speed sign for 70 it speeds up my cruise to +20?

Setting your cruise manually works exactly as you stated. It is set for 73mph. Signs, and "+", are irrelevant.

Then, as you drive, if it sees a sign for 70mph, and you have it set to 20+, it will accelerate to 90mph, as designed. If you were driving at 73, and the sign said 60 for a construction zone, it would accelerate to 80, 20 over 60. Then, when you see the next 70 sign, it will accelerate to 90.

People need to review every setting, and understand them or turn them off until they do.

Appreciate the explanation. I interpreted it incorrectly. I assumed that if I had my speed set higher than the limit it would not accelerate me any further. I thought it was more for when Iā€™m in a 55, cruise set at 59, then the posted sign speed limit changed to 65 my cruise would take me to 65+tolerance mph setting (in my case 65+20=85). I changed it to +5.

For those that might want a refresher - in the 2023 owners manual, pages 279-300 cover Cruise Control (boring), Adaptive Cruise Control (stop and go!), Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (Read them signs!) and Blue Cruise settings (look ma no hands except on curves and hills or when I'm wearing a hat or sunglasses or swatting at the kids in the backseat!).

Speed Recognition starts on page 338 and the first page is basically WARNINGS!

Glad you've got it now.

Unfortunately the speed sign recognition uses map data and camera data, so sometimes the map data is wrong or the camera sees the incorrect speed sign. Ford should add a report incident button to BlueCruise that grabs the logs and sends them to Ford so BlueCruise can improve with customer input.

Our Mach E has Adaptive Cruise and from the dealer it was set to ā€œonā€ and ā€œ10 mphā€œ over. We bought it in July of ā€˜21 and the sales people were familiar with it but not the nuances.

I read quickly through the on-screen menu, left Adaptive Cruise on and didnā€™t mentally process what was going to happen. The next morning Iā€™m on a 55 mph highway, and I turn on Adaptive Cruise and immediately set my speed to 53 mph. The next 55 mph sign I come to and I think I accidentally hung on the speed setting as it accelerates and then I quickly set speed down to 53 mph (my typical cruise speed). I come to a wooden bridge about 300ā€™ in length (parts of SR 101ā€¦ and yep, wood bridges still exist). At the entrance to the bridge thereā€™s a 50 mph sign and the car reads that and speeds up from 53 to 60 mph.

This is a narrow bridge with a sharp left hand turn at the far end and that is best taken at 50 or less. I jump on the brakes for the corner and suddenly it dawns on me what is happening.

The worst case is very possible: Inexperienced driver, frosty morning, panic braking induced slide wipeout/head-on at corner-end of bridge. An insurance company/investigator would subpoena the data logger and put 2 and 2 together and depending on the severity of the crash thereā€™d be an out-of-court settlement with the transportation department possibly named as well.

Iā€™m somewhat surprised such a scenario hasnā€™t happened yetā€¦. Itā€™s a Brave New World we are in. Be warned.
