Here is what happened… twice on the same road trip.
I have Blue Cruise on at 74mph and then by itself it increases speed to 90. 70 is the posted speed limit. I think it’s reading speed limit signs wrong. Scared the crap out of me when it happened and took me a moment to realize I hit 90 mph!!! The truck is quiet and it takes a moment to realize what is happening. I had a Tesla M3 prior with fully autonomous and put a lot of trust in it. Well, Blue Cruise is a comfort but trust is not there yet.
Be safe y’all.
This is 100% on you. This is a setting in the car to recognize the signs (or use a database, it does both). And a setting on how many miles over the speed to go. You, the driver, shouldn't be driving the truck until you go through all the settings in the truck.

Your thread title is clickbait BS.

Edit - now in a later post you acknowledged that you knew it was turned on? So it did exactly what it's designed to do, which you knew it would? o_O o_O o_O o_O o_O

I didn’t think BlueCruise read signs. I thought it’s all programmed
You would be incorrect.

95%, I would argue there is some responsibility on the dealership sales folk to properly educate buyers on critical features that can control the truck.

It's new tech that people aren't used to having. You shouldn't default that to the on state. That's on Ford.

My truck came from the dealer with the speed limit reading and adjustment turned off and the MPH over speed limit set at 0, IIRC. Don't know if that's the Ford default factory settings or the dealer did that. I don't remember the dealer rep specifically briefing me on that (he seemed to think his orientation talk was a bit redundant because I'd already studied the manual and knew where most of the physical controls and screen settings were).

I think Ford does a very poor job of new owner orientation. The online orientation videos are very limited and dumbed down, IMHO. Perhaps they don't want to scare new owners away with the potential complexity of the vehicle. This forum (and others like it) are invaluable resources for new owners. I bought a $2,000 DJI drone, and DJI made available an arcade-like video game in which I could hook my DJI controller tablet up to my computer and learn to fly the drone in a video simulation. Was great in giving me knowing control and confidence in my first real flights.

Perhaps Ford's human labor expenses are a lot greater than DJI's. But when Ford's Lightning vehicles cost $50K to over $100K, Ford could do a much better job providing video tutorials or software emulations/animations of how the vehicle operates, IMHO. Perhaps Ford thinks that people who have not been F-150 or EV owners are only a minority of new owners, and it's not worth the effort and expense. Since it's been said Farley is betting the farm on the EV business, maybe they should think twice about that and do better in new owner orientation.

The dealership gave me zero information just connected my phone to FordPass. Sales person didn’t even know how to fully turn off the AC to include the cooled seats. I was aware of speed sign setting after going through the UI but left it on because I thought, “that is pretty cool it can read speed signs”.

No, you are the one in control.

Brake pedal or cruise cancel button will slow you down.

Inversely, if it slows down you can press the skinny pedal to go faster.

Bluecruise is great, just learn the settings.

Not terribly surprising. The sales rep that met me for a test drive last year didn't know anything about it and didn't have any shame admitting it. I like that it will still display the most recent speed limit sign in the bottom right corner but I switched it off (was on when I took delivery) on my first pass through the settings. There weren't a lot of complaints in the forums yet, but just enough that I wasn't comfortable using it just yet. I've grown used to letting the truck steer around curves while on hands free (the wife hasn't yet :D) but the speed limit sign is too gimicky. True speed limits are rather subjective depending on the local driving habits so I off it went.

So you knew the feature was on, thought it was pretty cool, then when it did what it is supposed to do (read sign and add 20 miles per hour because you had it set that way), you are shocked by that?

Not understanding...

Um, not my Ford dealers - they were clueless when I picked up the Lightning and Mach E - barely knew how to activate Sync with my phone.

That's it.

Lot has to do with Ford - not the silly. uneducated, misinformed, franchised dealers...

That was kind of my intent on putting some of the onus on the sales folk. They should know what they are selling, they should be trained to educate buyers. A dealership that knows their stuff is going to earn my trust and repeat business. I don't understand why it's so bad. If it's your full time job to sell cars then how in the heck are they so inept? Small wonder people hate the car buying experience.

Honestly, I knew way more about the vehicle and options than the salesman at the dealer. I expect a poor and un-informed dealer experience.

1) They don't own one or drive it daily.

2) They have to sell lots of models, each with 1/2 dozen trims or more.

3) They don't get paid until they make a sale, so their incentive is to focus their time on making money.

4) Watching a video isn't #1 above.

5) They don't spend hours on a forum. If they did, see #2. They'd use an entire day just reading forums.

5) See #1 above.

You'll note that I only put 5% on them and I only mentioned critical systems (things that can control the truck). I don't expect them to know every trim panel and it's probability to squeak. I do expect them to know the bullet points on advertisements. No excuse, your selling a product you should know it.

This is why I loved Gunn dealerships in San Antonio. Employee owned, salary vs commission, and at least the guy I worked with knew his stuff.

Most sales guys are just standing around all day waiting for someone to show up, what a waste of time. The level of apathy towards improving at your job's required skill (in every industry) is appalling.

It read the speed limit wrong. That part you left out.
