Tesla gets NEVI funding

The TXDOT website identifies 1st year awards for Texas NEVI locations, nine of the fifty locations identified list Tesla as the awardee. I am more than a little surprised that Tesla won the awards with all the resistance Tesla has had to NEVI requirements. It’s going to be interesting seeing how these NEVI Tesla sites compare with legacy Tesla Supercharger sites.

What does a nevi site entail?

There has to be at least 4 charges capable of charging at least 150 kW and the chargers have to be available 96% of the time but requirements that Tesla was really having trouble with is that the chargers had to use the CCS standard and the chargers had to have card readers.

Hopefully Tyler, TX will get a DCFC. As of a few months ago there was not a single Level 3 charger there. My in-laws live there so charging when we visited there recently was... slow.

The card readers is interesting - has Tesla installed superchargers with card readers anywhere?

The new V4 pedestals have a display with a card reader. They have started building some sites in the US with V4 pedestals and V3 cabinets. These also have longer cables and should reach the Lightning port with no problem.

Interesting to see the applicants. Haven't heard of several of these. Circle K and Love's may be alright. Glad to see Tesla got the Wichita Falls location. US 287 between DFW and Amarillo (300+ miles) has no DCFC currently so its a no-go although there are V3 Tesla SC's in Vernon and Quanah that we'll have access to soon*.

Also, nothing new between DFW and Austin except Waxahachie. Tired of the 6 stations at EA in Waco.

Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and Statewide Transportation Improvement Program update (STIP) dates. As the names imply, a TIP is local whereas a STIP is statewide. I know that's not what you were hoping for.

supercharge.info says that the Wichita Falls site is under permit and was listed 16 days ago. Some sites under permit were listed over 300 days ago so there is no telling when construction on the Wichita Falls site will start. I can't find anything on the Texas Electric Vehicle Planning website that talks about construction start dates.
