Was finally able to e-file my taxes today, IRS accepted within 5 minutes!

I had used H&R Block software and IRS rejected last Friday because of an H&R Block issue with the clean vehicle tax credit form. This year the software seemed kind of buggy so don’t know if I want to keep using them.

I e-filed 5 weeks ago and it's so frustrating checking everyday on the status of my refund and getting this

Im in the same boat...had to do an identity verification thing a couple weeks ago, but still nothing since then. very annoying.

I used H&B block and it took a while before the form was available. I filed a while ago and just received my refund this past Monday. Also got some credit for installing solar on my garage roof.

We took delivery of a 24 Lyric in Dec and applied for $7.5k credit for which we just got refunds back from IRS. Bought a 23 Lightning last month a dealer fronted the 24 tax credit at tme of sale. So yes 23 and yes 24. Great time to buy

got dinged for identity verification too. Getting my refund deposited today, now that the clock has rolled over. My bank account showed the deposit before the where’s my refund tool so I stopped checking that. It was about two weeks after I verified my identity. Maybe it helped that I already had a verified id.me account for work?

I got my refund 2 days ago! Would have been about 2 weeks after the ID verification. Oddly enough, I also had already done that Idme thing prior to this because I handle some IRS stuff for a family business.

I know we are a few days past the filing deadline, I cut mine close and filed last weekend. Came back with a credit of $7465...so close!! Honestly, just happy the dealer did their job and it all went smoothly. My CPA just asked for my VIN and it all worked out.

Yeah, that ticked me off. I did a very, very tight estimate of my taxes just before year end, and did an IRA conversion to Roth, and thought I had it perfect. I totally forgot that tax brackets shift each year, which makes more income tax-free. I came in at $7,360, and lost an additional $41 on the credit for my charging station (after a $500 rebate that's 30% of what was left), so I left a total of $192 in tax credit on the table. Could have converted another $683 of IRA to Roth.

3 years in a row of doing this (2021 Mach-E, 2022 Mach-E, and 2022 Lightning). I'm done for a while.

If I have not received my refund yet, is it safe to assume dealer has screwed up submission of my info? I mailed a paper return. They say 4-6 weeks is normal for refund. It is a month past 6 weeks. Are other people experiencing delays or am I special?

p.s. The where is my return tool of IRS does not recognize me. The info they request to do the search is correct on my return and entered on the site correctly, if you guys know what this means, please do share.

@TaxmanHog do you have any insight?

The "PAPER" return is likely stuck in a block/batch that has not been keyed into the returns processing system yet, you're at the mercy of waiting for a transcriptionist to key in that data. Once that's done, the "Where's My Refund" system will be able to give you a status reports.

NOTE: politicians cut the original allocations of funding provided in the IRA bill, ongoing stifling of improvements in systems and staffing have been seriously cut back from the intended goals, more folks like me have had it up to here with the BS and punched the time clock for the last time.

Thanks. This is very helpful. It sounds like calling them may not make a difference.

Yeh, I never got the argument that government sucks so lets make it worse.

If transcriptionist has mistyped one of the key info the robot uses to verify my return, and they mailed a refund that is lost, am I stuck in limbo for good?
I will probably wait another month to see if the robot will get in the mood to talk to me but if she does not, I am not aware of any number that makes a human available to me to resolve the issue (if you are please do share).

The main line is 1-800-829-1040, DO NOT respond to the triage prompts, your call should drop into the live assistor queue, but the wait could be long! Ask them to confirm that your 1040 period ending 12/31/2023 has or has not posted to your tax account.

If your SSN had a typo, there is a validation process using the first four letter of your surname, the first 3 digits of street address and the five digit zip code, if that failed, the ORIGINAL ENTRY clerk is forced to double check and likely they will figure it out, then a second transcriptionist has to KEY VERIFY what the first person input and come up with the same positive results.

After that the rest of the return input should go smoothly, there are many cross checks at sub totals and feeder forms to main form.
