The solar installer I'm talking to about using the Lightning without the SunRun system has suggested that FranklinWH batteries might work. Their web site says the batteries have a generator input that is meant to use with man sources including EVs. On the front page it says "The aPower is a cutting-edge home battery within FranklinWH energy ecosystem, built to store energy from solar, grid, generator, and EVs. It stands as a reliable and powerful source for whole home backup." Anyone have experience with these batteries and a Lightning for home backup?

First I’ve heard of them, but if their products are anything like their website design, I wouldn’t touch them. All hat, no cattle.

I added two FranklinWH batteries recently. The panel upgrade includes an automatic transfer switch that allows input from a standby generator and apparently a vehicle. I sold my Lightning so I can't tell you whether it works.

Thanks. My solar guy tells me the batteries coming out in Jan/Feb will have "smart switches" so I can change what is getting powered from my phone. Also noted that Time named FranklinWH the #103 green product company out of their top 250, FWIW.

In order to use ProPower, I seem to recall that the transfer switch needs to also switch the neutral (I'm not an electrician, smarter folk please correct me) or it will trip the truck's GFCI. As long as that's handled, it seems entirely plausible that the batteries/smart panel will work as intended. I'm following, it looks like a neat solution.

To use the PPO on the truck to power the house you have to switch the neutral or you will get a ground fault on the truck.

I have an https://eg4electronics.com 14 kW home backup battery/inverter system which is able to charge with either grid or my 7.8 kW solar panels (even if still grid-tied). I can feed the home battery from the ER 2023 Lightning via a generator plug in the garage. Some energy losses AC/DC but more reliable than the Ford HIS.
