My son just asked me an interesting question. He asked if the Lightning will have a dog mode like the Tesla. Has anyone heard? Cool feature!

I doubt Ford would do that, unless you set up a schedule for when the AC or heat is on.

They better do this. One of the advantages of an EV is to keep the car cool when you go into the store for a few minutes!

I already do something similar with my PowerBoost, I just leave it running, take the key with me, and lock the doors. Truck is secure from the outside because the doors are locked, but AC is still running at whatever I had it set at. I disabled the annoying double horn honk with FORScan for leaving it running while taking the key out.

So all the pieces are pretty much there already, all they'd need to do is have some way to gracefully disable the double horn honk for you and I assume it would work the same. But worst case scenario, I'd think you could do the same process on the Lightning.

Exactly, people will assume you're some idiot killing your dog and call the police in seconds...
This is how the Tesla ended up getting dog mode.

I hope Ford will implement something similar to dog and camping modes....heck these really should be standard features on all future EVs.

I understand the Lightning will have adjustable pedals, so your German Shepherd might be able to reach them to drive.

Oh, you mean air conditioning! The Mach E can already leave the climate control on for a pre-determined period of time, as well as a camping sort of mode. They are not pure dog/camping modes, there are no cute visuals on the screen. However, you can put a little sign in the window.

Camp Mode, Dog Mode, Fart Noises are all gimmicks for tech geeks. No need for Ford to copy. Although I would love to have access to Netflix and all other entertainment that is on Tesla's. Basically just leave the AC on or Heater lock the doors with your phone and there is you Camp/Dog Mode.

But seeing as they just hired Tesla's Model 3 developer.......who knows.....

"During the past two years, there has been a steady increase in the number of states passing legislation to address the issue of companion animals left in hot cars, a growing subset of which shield regular citizens (as opposed to law enforcement) who rescue an animal in distress from criminal and civil liability."

Even though the AC (or heat) is on, passers by may not know it and just see the pet and break in to get the pet out, so best to take the pet with you. Also, the car may shutoff for some reason leaving the pet in a hot car.

Exactly, if I forget to shut off the vehicle because I don't have a key in the ignition and there's no running motor to remind me, I don't want to come back at the end of the day with a dead battery from the AC running. This happened to me once with my Prius when I was at a baseball game and luckily nobody drove off with the car and it didn't run out of gas. Hopefully the vehicle will shut off after 15-20 minutes or something if the key is not detected. However there could be instances where I want to override this and that's where the dog/camping modes will come in handy.
