My tiny trailer's 4 pin connector will not fit into the 4 pin connector on my 2023 Lightning Lariat ER. The trailer has a standard flat 4-pin male connector. It has worked with 7 to 4 pin adapters and other vehicles.
It looks like the Lightning connector still has a single pin that goes into the flat trailer connector but the holes in the lightning are too small for the trailer pins.

Has anyone used the 4 pin connector and did you need to get any type of adapter?

sw engineering manager,
I always just use an adapter. One of my boat trailers has a 5-pin flat connector that does not fit (stupid design of the ford connector with surrouding plastic). My other utliity trailer has wires that are too short to reach with the placement of the connector and my Bullet Proof Hitch, so the adapter provides the needed extra length.

I have encountered these kind of issues many times with my trailers and different tow vehicles. lots of adapters out there or just head over to full service U-Haul dealership or similar place (the ones who install hitches) and they can surely help you.

I haven't had an issue with my utility trailer's 4-pin connector
